MLB Owners, Players Meet, Situation Worsens
Scott Anderson

New York, New York - The lockout between the owners of Major League Baseball and the MLB Players Association has continued to face a deadlock, with the prospect of a strike-shortened season looming more. Many insiders speculate that there may not be a 2022 season should the lockout continue into March. The lockout began on December 2nd when the Players and Owners could not agree on a new Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) before the previous CBA's deadline. Several tenets of the new agreement were to be an increase in benefits in favor of the players. Additionally, minor league players were also to be covered in this new agreement, officially added within the fold of the MLB Players Association. The current MLB Commissioner, Rob Manfred, declined to comment on the condition of the negotiations. The Owners, in addition to league officials, demanded the implementation of new rule changes within the Collective Bargaining Agreement, such as a new pitch clock that would speed the game up and reduce unnecessary delays.

During these negotiations, several major names within the Players Association have been rumored to be undergoing negotiations with a new league that has been under development for the last few years: The North American League of Professional Baseball Clubs. The NAL, as it's colloquially referred to, was founded in late-2020 with the backing of several major names in the sports world. Among these names include NFL owners Jim Irsay, Jimmy Haslam, David Tepper, and the Wilf family. The new league has already announced that 20 teams will be located in areas that are underutilized by the MLB, including international locations in Canada and Mexico. New stadiums in several locations are already underway in preparation for these new teams. Insiders to the organization have hinted at major television deals being in the works for the NAL, including CBS, Paramount, and Amazon. For now, the standoff within the MLB continues... Negotiations Hit Dead End, MLB's Season Nearing Cancellation
Scott Anderson

New York, New York - Major League Baseball owners and the MLB Players Association, having undergone laborious negotiations to save the 2022 MLB Season, have hit a dead end after the Players Association walked from the table late Wednesday night. MLBPA Executive Director Tony Clark announced the next day in a public statement that players will formally strike if the owners do not concede to at least half of the demands placed by the Players Association. Insiders in Major League Baseball's executive office indicate that the owners might be prepared to cancel the season, a stark departure from what had been reported weeks ago... [Read More on D4]

New North American League Signs Television Deal with CBS, Amazon, More

Scott Anderson
Brooklyn, New York - The North American League of Professional Baseball Clubs, known by its public title "the North American League", have announced a television deal with major networks CBS, Paramount, Anthem, Bell Media, Sportsnet, ESPN (and its affiliate networks), Televisa Deportes, Fubo TV, and Apple TV. The NAL, which began operations in early-2019 by a group of investors which included several NFL owners, has indicated that it intends to compete with Major League Baseball. The NAL, which finished groundwork with the construction of several new ballparks in several cities, including Winnipeg, Vancouver, St. Cloud (Minnesota), Nashville, Charlotte, and Fargo (North Dakota), has also been rumored to be undergoing negotiations with the MLB Players Association. These rumors have shown that if the owners of Major League Baseball do not intend to negotiate a new deal soon, the Players Association may sign a Collective Bargaining Agreement with the new league instead. Such a scenario is unprecedented in the world of sports; the National Hockey League faced competition in the 1970s with the World Hockey Association, and the National Football League faced some pushback by the United States Football League in the 1980s, as well as a contentious rivalry with the American Football League in the 1960s, before both leagues merged in 1970...
