Not saying that's what Sabs might say but I will say the people who think like this have such a reductive view of the Von Erich family. Unless you're super into wrestling history or grew up in Dallas around the 70s and 80s, I don't think many people actually know about the Von Erichs, or probably tangentially know about it.

When compared to stuff like Owen Hart, Eddie Guerrero, Chris Benoit, etc. The Von Erich family is pretty fucking sad, but I think ultimately overlooked even by wrestling historians. Chances are David would have won the NWA title but no one can say for certain if he was gonna be a big star in wrestling or JCP/WCW. He might have had a chance in WWF tho.

The level of fame the family still has in Dallas is still pretty absurd though. You ask anyone about wrestling that lived through the 70s and 80s in Dallas and 9/10 times the first thing they mention are the Von Erichs before Hogan or the Attitude Era or anything modern. I even would have teachers in school, they'd hear people talk about wrestling and they'd just be like "oh those poor Von Erichs" and like we're 10 we don't know those men lol

It's very much the same in Minnesota, anyone growing up in the 70s and 80s you'd hear about Verne Gagne, The Crusher, Nick Bockwinkel, and Mad Dog Vachon

That's not really her thing tho, she knew it happened what's he was shocked about was the movie was even less tragic than irl, which we of course already know bc there's no Chris and I think they also don't mention any about David's son dying.

I've heard they don't touch on Fritz exploiting the deaths after for angles, but Fritz is a big heel in the movie already

Also I listened to an interview by the actor who plays Fritz who's name I can't remember rn and it was awesome. He went and trained with Johnny Rodz and his students, listened to a ton of history podcasts and it was really cool hearing him talk about becoming Fritz
