Randy Orton vs CM Punk

Randy Orton is on his way to becoming the top face in the WWE. Recently he has outpoppped Cena, and the crowd is absolutely in love with him right now, even going against two guys they could care less about. The WWE universe is dying to see an anti hero they can get behind, we haven't really had one since Austin's prime.

CM Punk, is his current character, may very well be one of the top heels of all time. He is so great on the mic that the crowd hates him more and more with every word he utters. He also has a backup stable that actually makes some sense as opposed to a few people who look alike just thrown together.

There are rumors circulating that Orton could very well head to SD to become the top guy over there when Taker takes some time off. If this is true, Orton vs Punk could very well be the main event of Mania 27, and it would be one of the best decisions the WWE has made in years.

The feud would pretty much write itself and could revolve around Orton's past history. The drug use, steriods, etc..Orton could recognize his past, but also give off an impression of "fuck you, I'll do what I wan, when I want."

I think the crowd would absolutely eat this feud up and it could be the start of something special.

This feud has definitely been in the back of my mind along with a Randy Orton vs. Chris Jericho feud. I have recently been thinking Orton would switch over to SD in the draft to get him away from Legacy, Triple H, Cena, and Batista...all the typical opponents he has faced in the past couple years. He finally turned face and needs a change of scenery to say the least to go along with the face turn. A feud with CM Punk would literally be one of the coolest match ups that we have not been able to see yet. Only negative to Orton moving to SD is that his pops won't seem realistic because of the edited crowd, but they would still be real on PPV's.

Great point with Orton's issues. In 2005 and 2006 he really dug himself a whole which is why he didn't get the strap until 2007. CM Punk can make anyone look EXTREME FACE, but the rate Orton is going it isn't like he is going to need that. This feud is definitely highly anticipated and can catch alot of people by surprise.

Orton vs. Punk > Any main event feud consisting of Rey Mysterio, Edge, Jack Swagger, or Undertaker...or anyone else on the entire brand for that matter.

If this happens it won't be for a while. Rey/Punk is supposed to last and no way they would build a feud for an entire year.

I don't like it. I just don't see Orton's character as one you can exploit using drug abuse or something on those lines, and considering CM Punk's heat comes from that, I just don't see the two of them mashing well in a feud.

You can exploit Orton's past though. It is well documented that he was suspended for both pot and steroids. Orton has a ton of baggage...the type of baggage Punk's character can thrive off of.

And instead of apologizing for it, Orton could take the approach that he has no regrets.

Yeah they could, however, I don't think that light should be brought to the general audience about Randy Orton. It was different with Jeff Hardy, being a druggie was practically his gimmick, however with Orton, even if he has the baggage indead, the majority of the public doesn't know he has been suspended, or at least isn't as well known as Hardy's problem.

This feud could still happen though, however based on something else. I am not looking forward to it though. If anything, CM Punk vs John Cena sounds far more interesting.

This is definitely the feud I am most looking forward right now, Orton/Punk could be awesome, the promos would be awesome and the matches just as good, Punk would have alot of things to feed off of for his promos imo. Really hope Orton goes to SD, he has so many potential matchups over there, Jericho, Punk, Drew to name a few.

Punk/Orton change wrestling??? NO. Great feud? Indeed.
There is no talent in wrestling, at this moment, that has the "it" to change the course of the industry. John Cena and HHH are the standard bearers and they certainly aren't the next coming of Hogan and Austin.

John Cena might be the Hogan of the generation.

I think you're severely under estimating CM Punk's ability in this one. With the amount of talent this guy possesses on the mic do you really think he'd need to cut a promo as simplistic as Orton being a pill popper or steroid user? I'm sure he'd be able to come up with something incredible. This whole feud with Mysterio hasn't revolved around drugs.

^agreed.

I find it hard to believe that all of CM Punk's feuds have to revlove around his opponent being a former druggie/junkie. That would severely limit the possible feuds he could have. I would LMAO if Punk mentioned the incident with him and the spitting gum at the kid thing.

Punk/Orton is honestly one of my dream matches.

I do think that they could have a great feud without bringing Orton's past into it, they are both superb on the mic. Even though the majority of Punlk's feuds since turning heel have revolved around Straight Edge values the Mysterio feud isn't. I am sure that the two of them could cook up some awesome promos against each other.

I think that Jericho/Orton would be awesome as well. Hell on Smackdown there are a shitload of potential feuds he could have. But just because it's rumored that he is moving to SD doesn't mean that he is, but I do think that a change of scenery would benefit him greatly.

Punk/Orton could/would make for an amazing feud, but the WWE might cut it short. Slap the belt on one of the two, then the feud will go on for quite some time.

You can exploit Orton's past though. It is well documented that he was suspended for both pot and steroids. Orton has a ton of baggage...the type of baggage Punk's character can thrive off of.

And instead of apologizing for it, Orton could take the approach that he has no regrets.

This would make Punk look like a bad heel if Orton did just say 'Fuck You!' because that is their whole storyline gone right there, okay Jeff said something like that but the feud worked because Punk could just push Jeff around but he couldn't do that with Orton, because it would make Orton look weak and the whole basis of his gimmick is that he is always one step ahead and is always more calculated than his oponent.

If Orton did just put his hands up and said 'I was wrong to do drugs, I am sorry' I think it's pretty obvious that that would piss alot of people off, not least the whole of IWF pretty much just because that is licking the fans' ring and that is not what Orton's face gimmick is about.

There is also the possibility that (like nou said) Punk just pulls something out of the bag and doesn't base the whole feud on drugs, but like I said before this could make Orton look weak as a promo cutter and perhaps a wrestler depending on what he does base it on.

All in all I don't think this feud would work (well not enough to 'change' wrestling anyway) just because they are both supposed to be very calculated, clever, sneaky, sly wrestlers. I don't think there is enough room in this feud for the two of them, when you consider that Randy's gimmick has changed very little since being a face. It would be a good feud match wise, but promo wise something will have to give.
