Do you believe in the death penalty? if yes, in which cases? If not, what would be your solution to deal with the criminals?

Okay this is another one of those iffy topics that alot of people disagree over. But I would still like everyones opinion on this matter.

I believe in the death penalty for murderers, rapists, and child molesters/child porngraphers/child abusers and anything like that regarding children. I dont think these people should be given isolation in prison while they await their death sentence. Even other criminals will not tolerate any abuse of children.
But anyway, in CA we have the 3 strikes law, which I think is a good idea if you are a violent repeat offender. But if you have like 2 DUIs and get arrested for jaywalking or such a thing as that then you get an automatic life sentence which I think is crap. Of course there should be special circumstances like if your husband is beating you and you kill him in self defense or someone tries to kidnap your child and you kill them, thats still murder but its also self defense and protecting your child.

Im sure there are alot of you who will disagree and I will respect your right to your opinion, even if I may not agree with you. But comments, opinions.......

why kill someone when you can stick them in jail for life with no chance of parol until they die...

Life in prison> killing someone

besides if a murder kills someone and you turn around and kill them, it makes you just as guilty as the murder...

It's worked well for Singapore so far, although I think if the person turns himself in, then he should not get the death penalty. There was a case here where the guy got away, but came back and turned himself in, and still got the death penalty. Then nobody will ever turn themselves in in the future.

It is one of the reasons why there's not much drug trafficking in SIngapore, because of the death penalty.

I like the 3 strikes policy, but I agree that if you turn yourself in then you shouldn't get the death penalty.

The main reason I support it is because Life in prison is EXPENSIVE!
If all the inmates with life sentences were released, the ammount of funds freed up would be huge and could benefit things like the NHS, Police, Fire brige and other government funded public aids

No, but they can make an acceptable alternative.

If you're gonna stick someone in prison for the rest of their days, why not have the death penalty for the really fucked up ones?
It's like buying a pair of shoes, realizing they don't fit and keeping them around the house. You're never gonna wear them, no-one else will and they're just cluttering the place up

okay, bad analogy but you get my point!

I agree with Dairydude, if they are multiple time rapists, whats the point of keeping them in jail. Killing them off would be better if they don't contribute to society and won't repent.

i agree with the death penalty for some reasons stated above..too lazy to type.

also, death > multiple life in prison. i'd rather be killed and get my life over with than to spend all my life in a cell.

so wouldn't that make it the better punishment?

besides the people that are actually sentenced to death have to wait years before they are actually executed, so in reality its really not that effective...

Bigger picture

lets say it cost 1 Million dollars to give someone life in prisons
OR it costs $200,000 to fry them, plus $100,000 to keep them on Death Row until time of execution.
Net profit to the government = $700,000 which can now go on making schools better and looking after people who want to be a productive part of society.

since when does money have to do with a moral issue?

its just not right to kill someone, ethically its wrong, morally is wrong....

also think about this; how would you like to be the person who gives the lethal injection or turns on the electric chair? you have to live with the fact that you killed someone, thus making a totally innocent person have to do an unspeakable act and have their conciseness eat away at them

If killing is so wrong, why do we celebrate the Second World War so much?

And yes, I am putting a value on those people's lives because to be on death row, they have valued their own existence to be higher than the people they killed, the children they raped etc.

it's an iffy situation...but the only way that the death penalty really works is the way that it's done in Texas......right away....if you're gonna sentence someone to death....get it over with....I think it's cruel and unusual punishment to have someone waiting for years knowing that they're gonna be executed....

Yes...if the person kills another person, rapes someone, molests a child, or something sooo drastic and fucked up. I think that people that get to live prision for the rest of their life (Manson, Raider) then they need to be killed in prision and I just can't believe that if someone killed another person and caused their family tons of greif...they deserve to die
