For some reason, Bret Hart became the most beloved wrestler ever to grace the ring. Part of the reason might be sympathy for the misfortunes that befell him, what with the premature end to his career, his stroke, and losing Owen. He was a master ring technician and deserves a high standing in wrestling history. But he had no mic skills and was not an entertaining wrestler. His promos during the recent stint were strained and self-conscious. Even with McMahon, Michaels, Austin and Cena joining him, the best he could do was croak out some angry words and take abuse from Vince, while fans readily anticipated the latter's comeuppance.
One appearance, as guest host of Raw, would have been suitable. The reconciliation with HBK and and McMahon's comeuppance would have been a good use of Hart and he would not have had to strain himself on the mic. I've been watching with some new fans, and they cannot understand what the fuss is about Bret Hart. I'd tell them Hart was one of the most accomplished wrestlers in history and tell them the story of the screwjob. That failed to get their interest and none of the story line got mine. Bret Hart has the personality and mic skills of a turnip. Fortunately Wrestlemania had 4 or 5 good matches because the McMahon/Hart farce was hard to watch. At least Hart didn't speak.
