Lethal Injection #3: Off to OVW
Lethal Injection #3: Off to OVW
LW, back atcha here when a new column. Yes I have to address something to get off my chest first. As you all read my column the last time it wasn't really a column it was a copy and paste job that I didn't have a lot of time for. I was going to do a Money In the Bank column and it was going to be in my own words but I shouldn't have rushed the column just because my first one was a blow on traffic that time. I am sorry for copying and pasting on that column and I won't do it again, look at my column here, it comes from the mind of the one and only Lethal Weapon. I do this for you guys on the forum and if you don't like it then I won't do it but I just want to help and provide so IWF has something to talk about. Again it wasn't the right thing to do and I am sorry, this one is original thought when I saw Raw a week ago. I don't want any more grieve about this so can you guys stop flaming and read my column. I don't plagiarize in real life when it really can get you in trouble so I am stopping now. Now off the topic that has the forum talking and back to producing the columns.
Now one of the events on Raw that made a lot of people talk is the event that took place around the 10:15-10:25 time on Raw, which is next to the last half hour of Raw. The event was Eugene getting shaved bald by Vince McMahon. I was watching this and thought it was not going to be shaved, that somebody was going to come out and rescue Eugene but they didn't. As the shaving kept going on I thought to myself that is another superstar that Vince McMahon is publicly embarrassing for absolutely no reason but then it hit me as I was watching the end of Raw that this was a favor for Eugene.
Vince was doing Eugene a favor and was doing what he is doing to a lot of superstars these days but has only been publicized once (When DX put the whole Spirit Squad in a large cardboard box and sent them to Louisville, Kentucky and it said "Ohio Valley Wrestling"). Eugene's shaving wasn't done in the best way but it got the job done and most wrestling fans will forget him by the time he comes back. This is debatable though as many young kids and males laughed at the Blue gimmick and maybe won't forget it. Repackaging has been done a lot and has been a good thing for the WWE of late with the DSW and OVW additions of "The Ripper" Paul Burchill and Vito (who is now doing a Muy Thai gimmick). Paul Burchill is without a doubt a great wrestler but under William Regal at the time he was under him would doom him because Regal was a jobber and you couldn't help that because Regal had no direction at that time and had a really bad gimmick. Paul Burchill is one of my favorite wrestlers on Smackdown at the time but then got stuck with a bad gimmick as Regal took off. Burchill got stuck with the pleasantly forgettable "Pirate Paul Burchill" gimmick. The only thing that he really had going for him were that he did bury Regal and make himself look good for a minute and few weeks where he made Regal his servant and a "Buxom Wench". While that was all funny and all that shit, it did foreshadow the burying of Paul Burchill. Burchill soon stopped appearing on Smackdown and then was squashed by Mark Henry, ending his run on Smackdown in the process sending him back down to OVW. The second good thing that Burchill did get was he had at that time the best finisher on Smackdown but he only got to use it about 2 times. It was a good move by WWE to send Burchill back down and get him a new gimmick.
Vito wasn't in the same predicament as Burchill but he did have a bad gimmick as well and nobody wanted him on TV, though he is a decent wrestler, Vito was stuck with the unforgettable "Toughest Man wearing a dress" gimmick. Also called "The Vince McMahon gay gimmick of the brand". I was glad when Vito left Smackdown for Deep South Wrestling because the "gay" gimmick was gone and wrestlers like Nunzio and Regal weren't buried. Vito was picking up lots of wins but burying superstars but McMahon pulled the trigger to send Vito back down to late, my mind is though stained forever because of seeing Vito's ass on TV. Vito came back to DSW in January and on January 25th beat Bradley Jay and Ryan O'Reilly to capture the OVW Heavyweight Championship but then lost it back a few weeks later to O'Reilly. Vito looks poised for a comeback to a main show.
Many more superstars that are considered "Good Superstars" in Lethal Weapon's opinion have been sent back down to developmental territories (The whole Spirit Squad except for Kenny, Rob Conway, and the WWE signed Chuck Palumbo back, remember Vince likes big athletic guys and Chuck isn't that bad of a wrestler)
Plans for Superstars:
Eugene: Send him back to OVW and repackage him as a dominant heel. I think he should win the belt and as many people before me have said, put him with Conway as a tag team on Smackdown or ECW.
Vito: Continue the Muy Thai gimmick and let it gel with him, send him to Raw and let him compete for the IC title
Former Spirit Squad: Repackage them but I don't like the gimmick that they have but instead spread them out between DSW and OVW and let them compete in the singles.
That raps it up folks. Lethal Injection will be back and you can count on that.
