A math teacher in Tennessee may be calculating the odds of whether or not he will keep his job after writing the word "stupid" on a student’s forehead in permanent marker.
WSMV reports that school administrators took swift action after finding out about the incident, and suspended Alex Boles indefinitely.
Matt Eldridge, director of Overton County, Tennessee Schools says the student's question was reasonable, and Boles reacted to it unreasonably. "One word can break a child. I mean, I've got three children. I wouldn't want it done to mine," Eldridge said
The incident happened at Allons Elemenatary School just outside Livingston. The school serves students from kindergarten through 8th grade. Eldridge says Boles called the incident a joke, but he is going to recommend that the teacher be fired. "It's kind of one of those mistakes that's hard to correct," said Eldridge.
District leaders said it was especially troubling to learn that Boles took the time to write "stupid" backwards on the child’s forehead so he could read it in the mirror.
