The three R's at one Connecticut school are a little different: Reading, 'riting and restroom cleanup.
A
Hartford teacher was placed on paid leave as two investigations were launched into her policy of making students clean the toilet after using a school bathroom.
Outraged parents at the Kennelly Elementary School said some children opted to wet their pants rather than serve as juvenile janitors for art teacher
Catherine Saur.

Yulissa Espinal said her 7-year-old was one of those frightened kids.
"She had wet underpants because she didn't want to clean the toilets," Espinal told the
Hartford Courant.
The problem came to light after an eighth-grade student came home with red and irritated skin from his enforced custodial duties. The toilet was located in a portable classroom.

School principal
Peter Dart, in a letter to parents, said the toilet cleaning began about two years ago - and was discontinued immediately after it came to light last week.
The
Connecticut Department of Children and Families, along with the school district's labor relations board, were investigating the bizarre bathroom behavior.
Saur has declined to comment on the flap.
