Lol I started a fight.
:
I know, right?
Exactly. I was 20 feet away from Austin when he first said that and contrary to what most people think, there were very few people cheering. In fact, anyone could just watch his entrance in the 1997 Royal Rumble and the crowd is relatively dead when he comes in.
It was really Wrestlemania 13 that he really began getting really popular.
I don't know if you're tone deaf, or not, but the crowd that night... Is pretty fucking loud. Here we are at King of the Ring, a boring sounding PPV, and people are screaming at the top of their lungs there. I didn't watch King of the Ring back then, I was more a RAW watcher. I didn't have fuckin' $50 a month, or $200 to $3000 a seat kind of money. But I know enough.
I am not scared of being wrong. In fact, the next post was well written that I just sat backwards and go like "hm." Like this one here...
Vince didn't see much in Austin when he first signed him. He saw in him "a good hand" and nothing more. McMahon almost says as much on Austin's own DVD.
And, I'm about to ask: Which DVD? The Stone Cold Truth?
And I have no idea what "if Austin was heel as "Stone Cold Steve Austin" we would have never seen the popularity" is supposed to mean, but the reason Austin became popular is because his character started to grow on people and everyone eventually started gravitating towards him and cheering him instead of booing him. The same thing that happens with nearly every top babyface.
I don't know if you remember, but the following night, I remember "Austin 3:16" chants. But, yeah, you're right. I've been saying
bolded ever since the response to
@Jacob Fox, but nooo. He wasn't having it. I even used John Cena as an example because
STILL to this day, he has boos from the crowd. That means there are some people who do not believe in the John Cena legend.
Also, this idea that everything exploded after the Austin 3:16 catchphrase was born is actually a nice piece of revisionist history without much truth to it. Austin was still being booed and still floundering about the card until the Bret feud happened later in the year. He didn't even wrestle on the main card for Summerslam that year (beat Yokozuna on the pre-show.)
Once again: John Cena.
I don't really have a problem with
@Jacob Fox at all, but if you want to be a fucking dickhead about it, let's have at it. I'm a nice guy, but once you piss me off. That's it. Go ahead, ignore me, or do whatever is it that you want to do to be a smartass. What's more annoying than being corrected is the smartass that tries to be better than you. I mean, was it necessary to go like "Exactly!" in your response? No. You just wanted to feel better about yourself.
