As many of you may now know, the top story on the internet today is the fact that Randy Orton defeated Christian at the Smackdown taping last night to become the new World Heavyweight Champion.

After speaking to several key WWE insiders, WrestleZone can now provide details behind why WWE decided to book this major title change just days after Christian won the title at Extreme Rules.

To begin with, as we exclusively reported several days ago, Randy Orton is set to become the focal point of the Smackdown brand, and the entire Friday night show will be centered around him from both a marketing and creative standpoint. Orton's position on Smackdown can be compared to John Cena's position on Raw, as WWE looks at both talents as the creative centers of their respective brands.

Additionally, we were told that Christian's title win at Extreme Rules was done not so much as a "well deserved win for Christian," but much more so that a big moment could be made for Edge at the PPV. "Vince [McMahon] could smell, touch and taste a moment between Edge and Christian celebrating on PPV, and that's the major reason why Christian was awarded the title." This dispels any conspiracy theories that Christian was awarded the title to keep it on Smackdown, as we were told it would have been very easy for WWE to throw a third party into the Extreme Rules match which would have kept the title off Christian and still on Smackdown.

As to the question of why WWE stripped Christian of the title so shortly after his win at Extreme Rules, WZ was told that no one in WWE with any kind of influence values Christian as a top money draw for the company. Christian is well liked, and is considered, as we were told, "a reliable hand," but when it comes to being a top player in WWE, Vince McMahon has absolutely no faith in him.

Brian Gewirtz, who is the head writer on Raw, and also oversees the entire writing staff in general, which means he does have influence on the direction of Smackdown, is said to be a big supporter of Christian, but other than him, there appears to be no other members of WWE's top brass that consider Christian to be a major player. And yet, we're told by our key WWE insider that even Gewirtz wouldn't speak up for Christian as a top draw. "Brian knows Christian is a very entertaining wrestler," we were told, "but even he knows Christian should not be the number one guy on either brand."

As we said, however, Christian is still considered to be a quality worker and a reliable hand for WWE, and we were even told that a possible producer/agent position might be available for him when his wrestling days are over, but as far as Christian ever working at the top of a WWE brand, that seems to be a very unlikely possibility.
First off, I have to say that I want a percentage for them basically taking my own argument

Secondly, the thing with people saying no one wants to see Orton is that people want to see him as the champ. Casuals want to see him, they buy his merch, pop hard for everything he does, order ppvs, and get behind him. They put the money into what he does which is all that does and should matter to WWE since they are a business, not some bullshit charity organization or plain wrestling show whose network or sponsors is content with bad ratings. Christian and his fanbase which is largely internet guys are the same ones who are too cool to buy and wear WWE shirts, say well no one watched ECW so why should I when he was at the top, and rather watch streams so if you want to blame anyone for Christian not being a top guy or having a case to be called marketable on his own, look no further than some of yourselves who say how dare they do this to our guy, without ever truly supporting him how he needed to be supported.

They didn't even give him a fucking chance. They gave Swagger and Sheamus a chance, but not Christian. Bogus.

Sheamus was the first Irish born champ in WWE history. He drew money from the day he debuted and after won from that market. He just did what Khali and Rey do.

Swagger got a run on MyTV which was dying and had lost markets. The only way to compare Christian and Swagger on SyFy is as ECW champs where Swagger and every other champ in the history of the brand trumped him. He was also only the guy on TNA when they were getting lower ratings that they are now and before they went through the Total Nostop Angle w/ Sting and other WWE cast off phase. He has nothing to say he will draw, not even being a top seller of merch during his stay in the company. The fact he was a turn coat honestly didn't help manners when it comes to trusting him long term after they spent years developing him, decorating his resume', and getting him over by leeching off of others who were always bigger stars and more over.

Christian has to find a way to make Vince's pockets take notice of him. To do that he needs his peeps to support him by actually shelling out cash for his merch, getting him high rated segments on the brand, popping crazy for him alone without Edge there to get him sympathy cheers, and buying some ppvs that see him featured in a big role on the card. That or he just has to be the heel who they out right will accept won't draw but place against the hottest faces

Apparently they were gonna make ADR win it and drop it to Orton on Smackdown as well but change their mind at the last minute (read a report) So either way it was just a way to get the belt to Smackdown for Orton to take it.

With that said, better for Christian to get his moment, really Edge, and be fed to Randy than ADR.

Don't be silly a 1.2 or 0.9 rating isn't gonna make too much of a difference when it comes to Vince's pocket. Being top dog on ECW and being top dog on Smackdown are two different beast. ECW title matches often were the openers of PPV's. So it is stupid to say "buy PPV's were he has a big role on the card" because that had not been the case for any ECW champion except for when Vince was champ himself at best.

You and Pyro would always joke about how ratings would drop anytime Orton retained or won the title. So if you're gonna pull the rating card be consistent with it. If Christian was top dog on Smackdown and ratings dropped and his merch didn't sell and this that and the other I would get your point. But no one can prove themselves if they aren't given the chance to prove it.

I said in that last paragraph people need to do that as in starting now for him. They need to create a upswing like Jeff Hardy's fans did by showing him support and like Rey's fans do

As for the Orton part, I never hid that he isn't Cena, Dave, or HHH, but he was in that Edge realm more than a Jericho realm. Christian's fan support alone sans Edge sympathy recently isn't and has never been close to the level he needed to bother Vince into giving him a three week run even

My bad then in which in that case I agree. He is gonna need to get that crowd demand to get the run that people want to see him get otherwise he is gonna be stuck in the spot he's mostly been in. That said they have to keep Christian relevant in the process as the fans aren't gonna support someone who gets inconsistent t.v time no matter who you are.

I knew I'd make a mistake reading this post, but the only valid point you make is that Sheamus is a draw to the Irish people. Surely Christian is more of a draw to the mature audiences and Canadian audiences than Sheamus. Add on the fact Christian is face (WWE needs faces), more talented than 75% of the roster means he should have at least been given a go.

It wouldn't have hurt for him to lose it at OTL in a hard fought match against Orton. That match might have been a draw too.

Orton and Jericho react to the situation.

Randy Orton posted the following messages on Twitter in response to angry fans:

"Biggest change from Raw to Smackdown...Ignorance x Jealousy + Spoilers = entertaining tweets!! Keep em coming!!"

"I'm def a fan of Capt Charisma. I always have great matches against him. I look forward to his rematch."

One fan said:

"I love how people think you screwed Christian in real life. Its a business. He'll get another rematch. Get over it people......."

And Orton responded with:

"well said"

In another exchange, a fan said:

"I don't think people are mad ur champ ur great we are angry cuz @Christian4Peeps is deserving and doesn't get a shot"

And Orton responded with:

"well I can understand that gripe. I was happy for him as well Sunday night. I made sure to congratulate him afterwards"
Chris Jericho has posted the following message on his official Twitter page, in which he addresses fans who are outraged about Christian losing the World Title to Randy Orton on this week's upcoming edition of WWE Smackdown:

"Hey everyone bitching about him losing the title, have you ever thought that maybe it's just the beginning of a bigger storyline?"

SD needs a lead heel more than a 2nd face. Christian can be that guy and should be it, unless they have Jericho and/or Dave lined up to return there secretly.

Getting a second face on the taped show is very easy with Sin Cara
