This has always been on my mind. Most people consider Wrestlemania 17 to be the peak of WWE and the greatest PPV ever produced. My question is why? It only had two or three matches that were actually “I’m gonna talk about this forever” matches.

TLC
Rock vs Austin
Kurt Angle vs Chris Benoit was very good but does anyone still talk about this?

Half the matches on the show were 4-8 minutes and were just average tv matches that you could see on Raw. Shane vs Vince was fun but was it really a great match?

So with a PPV that only has like two all time matches why does everyone think it’s so special

It was at the peak of the Attitude Era I thought at the time and all the Big Time Matches Stories were hitting on all Clinders for me. Vince vs Shane/Linda the moment she gets up and kicks Vince in the Nuts leading to Shane beating his Dad was a great moment as well. Crazy after what we've heard about Vince since then Linda should of kicked him a little bit harder.

Alot of people talk about Stone Cold vs The Rock 2, and the TLC Tag Title Ladder Match but forget Angle and Benoit put on a Masterpiece if you love Pure Wrestling.

Something very underrated about this show is that this was the first Mania to be in a dome/Stadium in 9 years (WrestleMania VIII was in the Hoosier Dome in Indianapolis). But it's the show itself that makes it so highly regarded. Watch the entire show, but if you whip out The Cock and start at 1:25:20 and go to the end it is a SUPER-SHEAMUS. It wasn't just a banger after banger from there on out literally some of the greatest Sports Entertainment in history. By the way you won't even see Kurt Angle have a mat-classic as that happened before that.

From that point you get the following in order:
  1. Vince/Shane which is some of the greatest shit in the history of WWE.
  2. TLC2
  3. Gimmick Battle Royal (easily one of the top WrestleMania matches of all and I won't listen to anyone who disagrees that shit was perfect).
  4. HHH/Undertaker, an all time match with even bigger entrances (HHH played by Motorhead and Taker getting speed on the bike)
  5. Rock/Austin 2 and the official end of the Attitude Era.

Yea... if you don't know why, just look at the pop of the crowd when Linda stood up from the chair.

Also Match length doesn't necessarily take away from Match quality or how entertaining a Match can be. Fuck, the Raven/Kane/Show Hardcore Title Triple Threat was probably one of the most entertaining PPV matches that division ever had and it's under 10 minutes long. ...and iirc Jericho vs. Regal was also pretty nice, even with them only having like 5-10 minutes.

Case in point
