So I am thinking about adding one of these to my collection

It was used to play movies in the late 70s early 80s
the movies looked like this

it played movies using a stylus like a record player...I remember my dad had one a long time ago and I watched Star Wars on it...

does this make me a hipster douchebag or just nostalgic?

Haha, Selectavision. We didn't have one but a kid down the street did and I can remember watching The Black Hole on it many times. I wouldn't say owning one makes you a hipster, that's more owning a top loading VCR. :

they have a bunch of them on ebay and a TON Of movies...pretty cheap to...maybe by the end of the summer I will own one....plus the movies make pretty cool decorations

I remember those, but what I remember from those days was my uncle owning a Laser disc player that had these huge slide in plastic trays that the movie disc was in.

They're not laser disc they actually are like records. The machine has a stylus much like a turntable. They are pretty neat.

I've never seen one of those in my life as I am not old enough to have ever used one.

I'd say it makes you nostalgic if you bought it as you remember using it in the past and it will bring back good memories.
