SuperSmackDown LIVE Five-Point Preview: Dec. 22, 2015

1. Who will be the standout of SuperSmackDown LIVE?

Fair warning: Whenever SuperSmackDown comes to Tuesday nights, there is absolutely no telling what will happen. From “Holiday Celebrations,” to “Blast from the Past” to a good, old “Great American Bash” or coming all the way across the pond to the first-ever LIVE SmackDown broadcast from the United Kingdom, the “Super” edition of big blue has always carried with it an incredible history.

SmackDown finds a new home on USA Network this January

As WWE Week continues to invade USA Network, the second-longest-running episodic television show in history will no doubt deliver once again with a whole new batch of action, surprises and extraordinary moments. As they say, there is nothing like live television.

With such heightened circumstances, however, the all-important X-factor must also be considered (and we don’t just mean a visit from The ECW Originals — although we wouldn’t rule that out.) With such a big opportunity for exposure on the table, which Superstars and Divas will look to step up and prove their worth like never before? Who will bring a new level of outrageous or make a statement that will change their career forever? With so many possibilities, one thing is for sure: The WWE Universe cannot afford to miss a second.

2. Vive los champions de Lucha?

Speaking of making a statement, after overcoming The New Day last Thursday on SmackDown, The Lucha Dragons get a chance to speak volumes when they challenge the WWE Tag Team Champions for the titles tonight on SuperSmackDown LIVE!

No doubt Kofi Kingston, Big E and Xavier Woods are talented and will look to use their ever-present numbers game to their advantage. But it must also be noted that the more success the reigning titleholders have had, the more overly confident they seem to be becoming. This is a character flaw that both Sin Cara & Kalisto and The Usos have taken advantage of to pick up huge victories in the past week.

Will the masked warriors be able to do it again when the WWE gold is on the line? Find out tonight at 8/7 C on USA Network.

3. A highly personal Intercontinental Triple Threat showdown

Just as the 2016 Slammy Awards was still heating up, Kevin Owens — outraged over losing Breakout Star of the Year — went on a verbal tirade that quickly transformed into an all-out brawl with presenter Dolph Ziggler. Despite the fact that Owens overcame Ziggler in an intense battle later that night, it seems that there is no extinguishing what is quickly becoming one of WWE’s most explosive rivalries. Translation, while Owens called Ziggler a “has-been” — we may find that their most volatile showdown could very well be yet to come?

Perhaps sooner than later, as in the final moments of Raw, it was announced that both Superstars will challenge Intercontinental Champion Dean Ambrose tonight at 8/7 C on SuperSmackDown LIVE!

4. Warning: The League is livid and Stephanie is out for justice

In the main event of Monday’s Raw, two things were made abundantly clear. First, Stephanie McMahon wanted WWE World Heavyweight Champion Roman Reigns to pay for his attacks on Triple H and Mr. McMahon in recent week. Second, The League of Nations was out to cause all-out destruction on anyone in their path — just ask Neville, Jack Swagger and The Usos. In spite of these facts, though, Reigns employed the help of a steel chair to eat through The League and help Intercontinental Champion Dean Ambrose overcome Sheamus in an explosive Steel Cage Match!

While The Big Dog’s actions certain thrilled the WWE Universe, we are willing to wager that it also served to infuriate The Celtic Warrior, his cohorts and Stephanie.

This begs the questions, will Reigns feel the full force of retribution tonight, when The League of Nation and The Authority will surely look to finish what they started on SuperSmackDown LIVE?

5. The Divas division is as unpredictable as ever
20151221_RAW_BeckyBrie_2.jpg

There is no telling what could happen in the volatile Divas division these days. Despite the fact that Becky Lynch finally beat Brie Bella on her own on last night’s Raw, she is clearly still conflicted over the “help” she has been receiving from her friend Divas Champion Charlotte and the “dirtiest player in the game” Ric Flair in recent weeks.

On top of all that, R-Truth accidently awarded the Diva of the Year Slammy to Paige, when Nikki Bella had actually won. Ooops, there it is! Also, Team B.A.D. — which seems to be the only remaining team in the Divas Revolution — seems to continue to be as dangerous as they are silly. Which of these issues will come to a head on USA Network tonight on SuperSmackDown LIVE?
