The Saw sequels I would maybe drop into the torture porn "genre" ... but the first one was definitely more about the story and trying to build suspense than all the torture and whatnot. If that's the way one person viewed it, then I guess that's their opinion. I can definitely see where people would categorize it that way. Yes, there were traps in which the victim would have to struggle through, and yes, there are some nasty moments... but I never looked at it as being all about gore. There's very little blood and gore in the first one in general. In my view, it was more about the story. I love all 7 of the films, but none of them quite reach the level of the first one for me. And as much as I like them, eventually... the last few all seemed to be repeating themselves. Especially 7, which was more or less a carbon copy of 6. Either way, Saw put James Wan on the fast track to awesome, so no complaints found from me.
Trick 'r Treat though, is an absolutely WONDERFUL take on the Halloween holiday, and still stands as one of my all time favorite horror films. I just fell in love with it right from the get go. The atmosphere, the storytelling, the comedy, the downright ridiculousness... it all clicked for me, and that's the simple reason why if the poll was still open, I'd be dropping a vote for Trick 'r Treat.
