It’s finally that time of the year again and being we are practically hours away from what is rightfully considered as one of the most anticipated Royal Rumble PPV’s in recent history, I shall waste no time with big ass prologues and get right to it. My only opening comment is this: props to WWE for a good job in hyping the rumble (though it almost felt that only RAW seemed to care about it on the go home show whereas on SD they barely made any mention of it) and more so props for stacking it and making it one of the most unpredictable one’s in recent memory unlike, say, last year when we pretty much figured out that HHH would win it entering at number 30 like…three months in advance.
SD 6 woman tag match: Only because this shall be the first time Mickie James steps into a WWE ring in, what, eight years, I’m giving the nod to the heels and Mickie actually getting the win for her team by pinning Becky, which can obviously be used as a setup for their upcoming feud.
Sasha Banks vs. Nia Jax: Going with Nia Jax here, assuming she should be the one to draw first blood in order for this story to keep going. Squashing no names is all fine and well but there has to come a point where Jax gets a big win under her belt and this should be it, which at the same time won’t really “hurt” Sasha Banks given they have the knee injury angle to play off.
RAW Tag Team Championship: The fact alone that this match is taking place in the preshow kind of tells me there won’t be a title change happening. With two referees involved, I could easily see yet another controversial finish but at the end of the day, my pick is for Cesaro and Sheamus to retain.
Cruiserweight Championship: I think the majority of us expect Neville to be crowned new champion and I won’t differ...
RAW Women’s Championship: The biggest lock of the evening, as I see no fucking way Bailey winning. Not now anyway and as much as the rumble PPV is a big deal, Charlotte’s streak can only be broken at Wrestlemania.
Universal Championship: The common theme here is “”how do you bet against Roman Reigns” and up until a couple of weeks ago I felt this was where they are heading. I mean, KO is great and all but it's not like his title reign has been memorable or anything. On the contrary, it's been weak wins in his title defenses, lots of interference and help from Jericho and overall not one single solid title defense. Well, even though Roman is the golden boy and logic says to go with him, I am going with KO here. Now, I would much rather it will be a solid title defense for a change but with Jericho...hanging around, I'm sure some shenanigans will happen yet again.
WWE Championship: I would really like for AJ to retain but I feel number 16 for Cena is happening tonight.
As for the Rumble itself, apparently Orton is heavily favored to win which really blows my mind given that neither him (nor Bray for that matter) have made any comments on the Rumble in any of their promos. Quite frankly, if you look at the promos overall on both shows, it is the RAW guys that have made it a big of a deal to win the thing rather than SD, perhaps with the exception of a Baron Corbin. Anyway, having heard about these rumors, I personally chose Bray to win the thing, given that I feel he would beneift a lot more from it rather then Orton who's "been there, done that". Elsewhere, I don't see any of the part timers winning unless its the Undertaker and if I were to choose a couple of dark horses, those would be Zayn or Balor if he were to make a surprise return.
Other then that, I too expect an appearance from Samoe Joe, I too feel the number 10 entrant will be Dillinger (it's so obvious it just HAS to happen) and then I could easily see the Miz continuing his mocking of Daniel Bryan. How? DB music hits, the place goes bananas thinking that DB is coming but instead its...Miz. Cruel, yeah, I know, but I can easily see this happening.
Furthermore, I too expect Zayn to be the iron man, I too expect Strowman to have the most eliminations and lastly, I expect HHH to be one of the surprise entrants, only to give Rollins an excuse to show up, eliminate him (or cause the distraction for that matter) and get their storyline going....
