Steamboat's matches with Flair and feud with Austin wins this for me, Austin had a decent run with the title, but was never pushed to the next level with it, and of course the way he lost it to Duggan will always put a black mark on his reign.

Austin had a great reign with some great matches but the way he lost it is all people remember. Doesn't hurt that Steamboat is my favorite Wrestler of All Time either. Ricky but it was closer than you think.

I don't think it is that close. Like you I was a big Austin fan at the time, but having some good matches isn't really enough, WCW never took him that serious as champion and he never threated to crack the main event as result of wearing the belt.

I had to go with Steamboat here. Austin had a good first title reign but the second was nothing. Steamboat had some very good title reigns and overall was a better US champion.

I am sure that Austin won't mind getting a ass whopping from his favourite wrestler, at least not in this sense!
