Rome: the greatest and longest-lasting nation in human history, extending from circa DCCLIII (753) B.C.E. and lasting until the fall of Constantinople in MCDLIII (1453) C.E.; a time span of 2,206 years. This hardy nation outlasted Alexander's great empire, beat the Carthaginians, conquered the Greeks, tamed the Gauls, and subjugated the Celts of Britannia in the span of 200 years. They owned the Mediterranean and dominated the world until the strain of their own administrations and territory slowly tore apart the empire. The countries split in CCCXCV (395) C.E. between Romanus Orientum (Roman East), and Romanus Occidens (Roman West). This led to a rapid death spiral of the Western Roman Empire and by CDLXXVI (476) C.E. Rome was conquered by Odoacer and his Germanic tribe.

Rome itself may have fallen, but the Roman Empire lived on in the East for another thousand years. The Eastern Roman Empire survived and stayed strong until the arrival of the Muslim caliphates between the 7th and 15th Centuries. The Eastern Roman Empire still found a way to survive, nonetheless. Even losing Constantinople to Crusaders during the Sack of Constantinople in MCCIV (1204) C.E. did not kill the Eastern Roman Empire. It took the great cannons of Mehmed II 250 years later to finally end Rome as a continuing entity. Rome did not die, however, as their ideals continue to survive in society today. Latin spawned most European languages, and the ideals of the Roman Republic are evident in many countries throughout the world today.

Now you will relive the glory of Rome. Will you vanquish your enemies with ruthless efficiency or will your enemies create a new fall of Rome? The fate of Rome is in your hands. Audente fortunes iuvat.

If you're new to the Mafia Scene, here's a quick explanation on the premise of the game and the history behind it! Town players will consist of players of the Roman Kingdom, Roman Republic, Roman Empire, and Eastern Roman Empire. Mafia players consist of Anti-Rome characters. Rome's role is to eliminate all threats to national security. The Anti-Roman's objective is to control the majority or make it so that it is no longer possible to lynch any Anti-Roman player. Character Claiming will be allowed. Each character has various amounts of flavor, so as to discourage flavor-spec, and roles may not match the flavor. The game will be split into two sections: Day and Night. During the day, everyone must choose a player to lynch. During the night, mafia may discretely choose a player to kill. Days last 24 hours, or until a majority for a lynch has been cast. Nights last 12 hours, or until all night powers have been sent in. Night-Posting is allowed. Day 1 will last 48 hours, and Night 1 will last 18 hours. Do not post about the game outside the thread. All things regarding the contents of the ongoing game will remain in the thread. Failure to do so will result in a mod-kill or repping out. Attempting to game the thread in a way where your alignment is confirmed through means other than by play or playing to the integrity of mafia will result in a modkill and punishment for your alignment. No excessive flaming to the point of personal insults. Any evidence of egregious flaming may be subject to forcible repping out or modkill if no alternative may be found. If one believes potential flaming is in play, let the host or the mod know. Basically just be cool, okay? Editing posts is allowed up until 5 minutes following.
