Even though I mentioned ROH in the title, this thread isn't entirely about it. In this thread, I'll be listing some other top indy/international promotions besides ROH. It's something to look at if you're an ROH fan wanting something other than that, and just a fan looking to see more indy wrestling. You can post what promotions you wanna see featured, and your opinions on the feds profiled.

Chikara Pro

Ok, first promotion profiled...

Chikaralogo.jpg

Chikara is a Philadelphia based promotion that mixes Japanese, Mexican and Comedy Matches opened in 2002. Most of their matches are tag matches, and they have quite a few stables. They have very wacky characters and it's for all ages, there's nothing "bad" I've seen in Chikara. They just had a Trios (6 Man Tag) Tournament, which is an annual thing. They also have other tournaments throughout the year. One of them is the Young Lions Cup, which is a tournament for the best young wrestlers. They have a tag title called the Campeonatos de Parejas, and they've only had 3 teams as champions since it was introduced in 2006. Chikara is pretty easy to find on the internet, they have a podcast called the Chikara Podcast-A-Go-Go which shows highlights of recent shows. They came out with a DVD called "The Best of Chikara" which can be found in all DVD stores like FYE, Best Buy, and places like that. The DVD was great, it's worth the $10 and shows what Chikara ia all about. They're getting more and more popular and could be soon getting more attention from the normal wrestling fan. Their website is...

Dragon Gate Pro Wrestling

Felt like changing it up a little this week, so I went with a Japanese Fed.

DG.jpg

Dragon Gate is a top Japanese wrestling promotion. It has younger stars than Pro Wrestling NOAH, and more "exciting" matches, matches for someone that likes difficult and high impact moves, AKA the Cruiserweight/X Division Style. Most of their shows have 3 or 4 multi man tags, and even though they're not like singles matches, there's always a big spot or a memorable moment, it's nonstop. It used to be run by Ultimo Dragon, but they separated a few years back. Ultimo trained most of the top guys there, and he runs Toryumon now. A couple of top indy stars like Jack Evans, Kevin Steen and El Generico regularly compete in DG. They had several ROH shows centered around them, and the guys that go over to America always steal the show, like Dragon Gate Challenge, Supercard of Honor I and II and All Star Extravaganza III. It really is a great promotion to get into if you want to start watching Japanese wrestling and you're a WWE fan. Here are the links...

-A site in English showing what they're about.

-Where you can get Dragon Gate DVD's for only $3-$6 a show. Matches are announced in Japanese, but who needs commentary when you're watching a great match?

Hope to see some comments in this thread. Thanks for taking a look.

Can't say I'm a huge Dragon Gate fan. I can only watch a couple of matches per sitting. Mostly due to the spotty feel in most of their matches.

Good company and entertaining as hell, but I'm more of a NOAH fan to be honest.

Apart from ROH and NOAH, you cant look into any other promotion if it didnt have a death match/ fans chose the weapons matches/ etc.. Coz they would suck big time on ordinary type of matches.

I like Dragon Gate, but you can only watch so many spot fests imo. NOAH is my favourite Japanese promotion by a long, long way

Dragon Gate is good in small doses.

How about IWA-MS and JAPW

^^ I try my best to keep up with both of them; I’ve bought a couple IWA-MS dvds over the last couple months and for the most part I enjoy them. I just hope IWA can make it another year…Also I'm a huge fan of Josh Abercrombie and I would love to see him in ROH one day or even TNA.

Glad to see CHIKARA was featured first. Got my first real taste of it this week by downloading their podcast. Great stuff. Love to see a feature on some Uk indies. Don't worry about freaking LDN cause that is shite, but RQW ain't bad, as it is collaboration with Chickfight. We get Chickfight here in the Uk on a computer games channel called Pulse, and we used to get RQW on The Fight Network UK, but like with ROH no new stuff for a while.

I really have lots of DVD catching up on to do, and I think I'll update this thread later in the week, maybe I'll do FIP, because it is ROH South. I could be featuring PWG, IWA-MS, CZW and others in the future, as soon as I watch their shows.

I also got the Chikara Best of 2007 DVD (not what they sell at FYE), and it was amazing, I already have a couple of shows on VHS, but the Best of 2007 DVD sold me for Chikara. Colin Olsen (Delaney) oozes charisma and is a good wrestler, and Chuck Taylor is the man from what I watched. I'm hoping they come up here to New York, they could make a big splash. Here are the matches on that DVD...

MCW (Maryland Championship Wrestling) is a good indy fed and is well respected in the wrestling biz. They use guys from ROH and CZW among other feds.

And yes they did have a fans bring the weapons match.
