I'm not against this fight at all, I think it's time Matt Brown got a top fighter to challenge him although I am kinda surprised that it's for a shot at the title, although with Dana who knows.A barnburner of a welterweight pairing will headline the UFC's summer foray onto network television, as top-ranked contenders Robbie Lawler and Matt Brown are set to collide in the main event of UFC on FOX 12, promotion officials announced Tuesday.
"Yes winner of Lawler vs Brown gets the next shot at the title," UFC President Dana White declared in a follow-up tweet.
The announcement means no rest for the weary for Lawler (23-10, 1 NC), as the UFC's No. 1 ranked welterweight contender eyes yet another two-month turnaround after narrowly losing a grueling title bid against Johny Hendricks in March, then outclassing Jake Ellenberger en route to a third-round TKO in May.
Lawler, 32, is 4-1 thus far in his second UFC stint, having also upset Josh Koscheck and Rory MacDonald with impressive performances last year.
Though in Brown (19-11), "Ruthless" collides headfirst against the division's hottest fighter. The owner of a staggering seven-fight win streak, which includes six KO/TKO finishes, Brown most recently weathered an early storm to roar back and defeat Erick Silva via third-round TKO in one of the year's most memorable fights at UFC Fight Night 40.
UFC on FOX 12 takes place on July 26, 2014 at the SAP Center in San Jose, CA. An updated fight card can be seen below.
