Newsday's Alfonso Castillo contacted Rev. Al Sharpton regarding his decision to guest host this Monday's WWE Raw given World Wrestling Entertainment's past portrayal of minorities and received the following statement:

"In order to raise awareness and actually do something about the devastating achievement gap in education between kids of color and their white peers the viewership of WWE events is precisely the group of people who need to be reached and involved. Reverend Sharpton has stated repeatedly that all of us must take extraordinary steps to reverse the current trend in education and that unlikely alliances (like with Newt Gingrich) and forums like the WWE should be utilized if they help close the gap.

Reverend Sharpton has led --and will continue to lead-- the fight against the use of the N-word and bigotry of all types, but until we end disparity in education, such conduct will continue. Rev. Sharpton appeared on BET while fighting against the N-word in their videos and there is no difference.

As Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama and John McCain did before him, Reverend Sharpton recognizes that WWE events provide an unfettered opportunity to raise important issues to a national audience of Americans.

Rev. Sharpton has talked to Vince McMahon who assured him that they have corrected and will discontinue any racial denigration."

Currently announced for Monday's Raw in Albany, NY is John Cena running a Gauntlet, facing WWE champion Randy Orton and WWE Unified Tag Team champions Big Show and Chris Jericho in the same night.

Great, he wants to fight racism, yet a black man will take part in a Gauntlet Match. Brilliant.

I hate this fuckin guy. He's the biggest fuckin racist going... enough with this bullshit. There is NOTHING holding any race back in this day and age. If you can't get your shit together don't blame something that didn't even happen while you were alive. If Obama becoming president wasn't enough to shut him up...nothing will.

Could you imagine if Sharpton saw Pretty Ricky!? LMFAO

Totally agree. Obama has proven that if a black guy is as capable as a white guy, he'll get his fair chance. Don't push the blame on race when the people belonging to that race don't give a shit about going to school and getting good grades. It's not the lack of opporunities for African Americans. THey just aren't good enough most of the time. There are exceptions though.

QFT. I had to work as a mentor in a JROTC (Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps) program in an all black high school and you wouldn't believe how these people hold themselves back these days. For instance, the kids that got picked on were *Big surprise!* the successful ones that "spoke lyke 'dem whyyyyte people and got good gradez".

Can you believe that shit? For a largely self-destructive school system, they (the peer pressuring clique groups and bullies) ostracized the successful ones!! Getting good grades and not wanting to look/sound like an uneducated "hood" was shamed!!!???

And we're supposed to feel sorry for the current state of majority black schools? Sorry, I'm not a sympathetic, gullable dupe.
