It also released the trailer you see above, accompanied by the following description: "It has been ten years since the incident at Raccoon City and the President of the United States has decided to reveal the truth behind what took place. Raccoon City survivor and personal friend of the President, Leon S. Kennedy, arrives to find the President transformed beyond recognition by a bioterrorist attack. Leon is forced to make the hardest decision he has ever made.
"At the same, Bioterrorism Security Assessment Alliance Member, Chris Redfield arrives in China, itself under threat of a bioterrorist attack."
Original Story: The existence of Resident Evil 6 has been confirmed, as has its currently-planned release date.
Some kind of word on a new core Resident Evil game has been expected for quite a while now. Although the gap between Resident Evil 4 and 5 was over four years, then-Capcom boss Keiji Inafune said in 2010 that news on Resident Evil 6 was coming "soon." That was in September 2010, just a year and a half after the release of RE5. Given the timing, we expected to hear something at that year's Tokyo Game Show, only to be disappointed. A year later a trailer made the rounds during TGS 2011 generating some excitement before the obvious conclusion -- that it was a fake -- was proven to be true.
But it looks like the wait is over -- promotional posters sent to GameStop for Resident Evil 6 have been photographed and shared with IGN. Although they don't show any characters or anything else that might reveal a detail about the game, a release date of November 20, 2012 is listed, which is a hell of a lot moreLuckily for those keen on knowing more, a Capcom source has revealed to GamesBeat that RE6 stars both Chris Redfield and Leon Kennedy. The two will have their own stories that overlap with one another, which sounds reminiscent of Resident Evil 2's Leon/Claire Redfield setup. Both Chris and Leon will have a partner, and Ada Wong (again, originally from RE2) is, according to IGN, going to be playable.
The game will feature a mixture of the more action-oriented style introduced in Resident Evil 4 and the survival-horror found in the series' older games. GamesBeat's source also stated the game is being developed by the internal Japanese team responsible for previous RE games, meaning it has not been outsourced to a western developer as Dead Rising 2 was.
Little had been known about RE6 before now, aside from the fact that Resident Evil 5 producer Jun Takeuchi didn't plan on being involved with its development.
Some word on Resident Evil 6 was expected before long following the discovery of NoHopeLeft.com. It's believed to be a teaser for RE6, with the site indicating something is coming today at 2PM Pacific. The video above is one piece of content you'll find there, with many fans assuming it indicates the game will be at least partially set in China. Whether that's the case or not, we should be hearing a lot more about RE6 before long.
Wasn't a big fab of RE5, but I've been a huge fan of the series and from the trailer this game looks like it's going to be great. If they can fix some of the issues that killed RE5 they can really return the franchise to a top level.
