Question is simple, how much does a referee has to have a role in the match before it just starts getting annoying?

I for example HATE Earl Hebner. Not only because I think he's a horrible referee with his windmill for every near fall that practically gives away that the match is not ending, but specially when they had him stand up for the bad guy and push the guy around demanding respect. Also hate when they try to heel the referees (nWo, WCW invasion)

I just think the referee should be the guy making the pinfall counts and nothing else. No personality, no nothing, not playing a role in the actual match.

"WHAT'RE YOU DOIN!?!?! WHAT'S YOUR PROBLEM!!!????????"
I really think they told him to tone it the fuck down because he quieted down a bit out of nowhere. You guys definitely know who I'm talking about.


Chioda is good as you barely notice him. And the little blonde guy who came from WCW.

This dude for sure is annoying as hell but I think he's toned it down a bit since I don't remember noticing him during a match for a while.

Another referee's mannerisms I hate is the blood referee on Smackdown. Maybe it's the one CM Punk 'feuded' with a little bit ago but the way he counts pins are weird, just always annoyed me.

No I don't have a problem with a heel ref like Mark Johnson. A referee can have a "I'm helping to do a screwjob" thing but no in ring wrestling like the referee match in 01 or Road Dogg's brother Scott Armstrong.

I've been a fan of Mike Choda since the early SD days. I duno why, I just like the guy. That little blond ref is hilarious when he runs. Like at that one Mania (24 I think) he had to run down that long ass entrance way, by the time he made it too the ring to start the count, he was dead tired.

Most of them annoy the fuck out of me. Sometimes they become almost the focal point of a match, and that's just ridiculous. Use them in storylines if you must, but don't take the attention away from what we want to see.
