Great game, been playing it on my step dad's PS3 and it is awesome. In fact I just ordered it myself for my Xbox360 on Play.com. I always loved the GTA games and this is pretty much the same game but in the Wild West. I think I prefer this to GTA IV because there is alot more building up needed for example with the hunting and picking plants whereas GTA you just killed the person and picked up their cash (although you can do that on RDR the game seems to frown upon it a little more). I never did follow the storyline on GTA, I just entered the cheats and went on a rampage but the storyline on this game seems alot better. Can't wait for this game to get delivered.

I read that this game has outsold Final Fantasy 13.

So that brings up the question, is this game that good? Or is Rockstar that overrated?

This game is fucking awesome man, if you don't believe me go out and buy it, it is one well spent £40 (or for Americans $50 is it? Anyway....). The fact that it is free roam keeps my attention, there is so many different things you can do and the attention to detail is amazing. An example of the amazing detail in this game is that when your character walks in the water his jeans get wet and after walking in the dirt the bottom of his jeans get dusty and dirty. Now the gameplay is amazing too, can't really describe it, it is just a pleasure to play the game. I can't wait for this game to get delivered, shame it's a bank holiday here in the UK :(.

I don't believe Rockstar is overrated. Rockstar can pull of some hella good games like GTA San Andreas and this game. I am really starting to like the GTA IV engine, I think other games could use it, imagine an Elder Scrolls with this engine and graphics, would be pretty sweet. Red Dead is easily my favorite game of the year so far. Only half way through the year though.

A friend of mine bought it and I've been able to sit down and play it for a couple hours. I agree that it's GTA4 set in the wild west, but that's hardly a bad thing. It's highly addictive and I look forward to playing it again. That is, if I can pry the controller from my friend's hands.

On a side note, I bought Gun a few years ago and still love playing it.

I'm sure the side missions in this game are repetitive. I highly doubt it's as good as it's reviews. It looks good but nothing mind blowing. The multiplayer looks extremely lackluster.

There actually is a difference between the PS3 version and the 360 version. There are more gang hideouts in the PS3 version. The trick to getting no real problems from killing someone is to wear the bandanna, which covers Marston's face. You commit the crime with it on & no Fame or Honor decreases. The other thing is to take it off if you are wanted, it will make the wanted level go down faster. Also do not leave it on when doing missions or anything that will increase your Fame or Honor because it will not change (for good or bad). I like the setting better than GTA, it is great to travel expanses without seeing another person, lit only by moonlight. Also Red Dead isn't a satire, which is something that's nice to see from Rockstar in an open-world game.

Thanks for the tips there. I think I will spend up to a week just killing and skinning animals to make money and then start doing the missions when I have a full set of weapons and a bit of experience.

No, its that FF13 was mediocre. The "Gestalt Mode" of summons is pretty queer.
