Royal Rumble - January 19, 1997​

One of the most anticipated matches of the Royal Rumble event is a Ladder Match for the Intercontinental title between new champion "The Rock" Rocky Maivia, who defeated Steve Austin on Raw shortly after In Your House, against Hunter Hearst Helmsley, Savio Vega and European Champion The British Bulldog. Bulldog has the opportunity to walk out of the Rumble from double champion to not a champion at all since he also defends the European title against Shawn Michaels. Also on the card, outside of the Rumble match: The Headbangers vs The Godwinns, Goldust vs Vader, Stone Cold Steve Austin vs The Undertaker in a non-title match

Another eventful edition of the King of the Ring as Owen Hart picks up the biggest victory of his career by beating Shawn Michaels in the quarter-finals, making it all the way to the finals against Stone Cold Steve Austin. A few talents like Austin and Vader also work a match outside of the tournament with Austin continuing his feud with Savio Vega and Vader battling Bret Hart. The Undertaker beats Austin shortly after IYH in May to capture the Intercontinental title and be a double champion. However, he only defends the Intercontinental title against Goldust on the show. This show also marks a Windham family reunion as Barry's brother Kendall join forces with him to challenge the Godwinns for the WWF Tag Team titles.

This IYH from the Calgary Stampede is headlined by the Hart Foundation battling the Nation of Domination in 10-men tag, with the Nation looking to benefit from the dissent within members of the Hart Foundation. So, Bret Hart & Jim Neidhart hash it out in the opener with Owen Hart & The British Bulldog so that they can be on the same page in the main event. The Rock regains the Intercontinental title from The Undertaker and defends it against Steve Austin while Undertaker battles Mankind once again. Shawn Michaels ends up regaining the WWF Championship after the King of the Ring and defends against Triple H in the co-main event.

As it has now become tradition over the years, a few talents pull double duty on the show, working 2 matches, even 3 in The Rock's case.
