WWF King of the Ring 1993 – June 13th, 1993

Event Location: Providence Civic Center, Providence, Rhode Island

Attendance: Approximately 8,500 fans


In-between Wrestlemania and the inaugural broadcasted King of the Ring, the Intercontinental & tag team titles change hands with Mr. Perfect defeating Razor Ramon in a rematch of Wrestlemania while the Quebecers captured the tag titles on Raw in a Province of Quebec Rules match. However, the Steiners get their rematch against the Quebecers at the King of the Ring while Mr. Perfect defends against Lex Luger, who also takes part in the King of the Ring tournament. Bret Hart also pulls double duty outside of the tournament, along with Razor Ramon - although Razor Ramon wrestles in a dark match.

This Summerslam is headlined by Bret Hart vs Shawn Michaels for the WWF Championship, after Bret Hart defeated Hulk Hogan in the European tour in Germany to regain his title. Ultimate Warrior also resurfaces, after hashing things out with Vince McMahon and works the co-main event against Crush. The Steiners defend their titles against the Quebecers one more time while the Smoking Gunns and Headbangers vie for the #1 contendership for the tag titles. Survivor Series - November 24, 1993​

As it is the case like in previous years, a few wrestlers pull double duty like Yokozuna and Crush but several talents from Smokey Mountain Wrestling are loaned to the WWF by Jim Cornette as Ron Simmons, Kwang, The Blu Twins & "Primetime" Brian Lee all work a match together in the show. The Barbarian returns, rechristened simply as "Samoa" in the main event.

As it is always the case during Rumble season, several new & old surfaces reemerge for the Rumble match itself. Shawn Michaels defeats Mr. Perfect in December to become the new Intercontinental Champion and with Marty Jannetty back in the company, with the former Rockers rekindling their rivalry. A new team is formed between the youngster 1-2-3 Kid and the veteran Bob Backlund and they get their first crack at making it in the tag division against the Heavenly Bodies. Ricky Steamboat also returns to the WWF, taking on another new acquisition of Vince McMahon in Vader. Despite being the WWF Champion, Bret Hart enters the Rumble match, in hopes to be able to select his opponent for Wrestlemania.

The road to Wrestlemania takes an unexpected twist when at MSG, Diesel gets his early title shot against Bret Hart in early February but Owen Hart turns on his brother, allowing Diesel to win the title. Bam Bam Bigelow steps up as Diesel's challenger for Wrestlemania X, who is headlined by another Hulk Hogan vs Ultimae Warrior showdown. The Quebecers regain the tag titles on Raw and must compose with the gelling tag team of 1-2-3 Kid & Bob Backlund. Razor Ramon regains the Intercontinental title from Shawn Michaels but Michaels invokes his rematch clause for Wrestlemania, setting up a classic encounter. In the meantime, Bret Hart attempts to avenge his brother's betrayal and a battle royal also takes place to crown the next contender in line.

This Survivor Series is headlined by Diesel defending the WWF Championship against Randy Savage, but with the caveat of having Ric Flair appointed as the special guest referee. Many question the decision by WWF President Jack Tunney as Flair and Savage haven't been on the greatest terms in recent times. Diesel pulls double duty as he's part of the team captained by Bret Hart against the Million Dollar Corporation, a match that features Ted Dibiase's first match back in the ring in a couple of years, as he captains the team. Elsewhere, Razor Ramon who regained the Intercontinental title from Diesel in September on WWF Superstars, defends against Owen Hart, while the Heavenly Bodies, managed by Sunny, defend their titles against The Smoking Gunns, looking to regain their titles.

Mabel shocks the world the night after In Your House 2 by winning the WWF Championship from Diesel and is set to defend against The Undertaker, who beat him at IYH2. However, Shawn Michaels, who earned a title shot in virtue of winning the King of the Ring in June, is looking to cash in on that opportunity by challenging the champ to an impromptu match in the main event. Sid Vicious makes his WWF return and challenges Razor Ramon for the Intercontinental Championship while The Blue Bloods (Bobby Eaton & Steven Regal - here known as Prince Robert & Sir William) also make their WWF PPV debut by competing in the Tag Team Turmoil match for the WWF Tag titles. Also on the card: Bret Hart continues his feud with Diesel while "Stone Cold" Steve Austin squares off with newcomer Savio Vega (formerly under the Kwang mask).
