ECW Episode 5

7/11/2006

Opening Segment

The show begins with a recap of last week where Paul Heyman made RVD defend his ECW World Heavyweight Championship in a 4-Way Dance match against Big Show, Kurt Angle and Sabu. RVD would win the match. Heyman would then reveal he was defying orders by allowing RVD to walk out the champion when he was about to be suspended for 30 days following an incident with the law. It ends with Heyman suggesting that he will likely be fired, but he believes he is doing the right thing for ECW.

We then cut to the arena where Joey Styles and Taz welcome us to ECW. They are quickly cut off by ‘No Chance in Hell’ playing and a very loud and mixed reaction from the crowd. Vince McMahon struts to the ring, stopping a few times to take in the ECW audience. Eventually he climbs into the ring with a microphone in hand.

VINCE McMAHON: “When I brought back ECW, I didn’t do it out of nostalgia. I didn’t do it out of the goodness of my heart to give a bunch of freaks a paycheck. I did it because it made business sense. It was a business decision. A decision made possible because I believe I had the right people to make it succeed. And the Number one person behind that was Paul Heyman.

And I still believe that Paul Heyman is the best man for the job of ECW Commissioner… but…last week… Paul Heyman defied orders.

So let me make something perfectly clear to Paul Heyman, and all the WWE employees. It doesn’t matter what you think… in this company… in MY company… business comes first. When I make a decision… a BUSINESS DECISION… I expect EVERYBODY to fall in line.

So now I find myself in a little dilemma. Do I fire Paul Heyman?

No, no. I’m not going to fire him… yet. Because I’m a businessman, and I have come up with a business decision.

So here it is. Paul Heyman will select an ECW Original of his choice, and they will go one-on-one with a WWE Superstar of my choice.

If Paul’s pick wins, he keep his job.
But if his pick loses… then Paul is finished, gone.

So for tonight Paul Heyman gets to keep his position. But by the end of this show I want his pick. Because that match will happen this weekend at Saturday Night’s Main Event.”

‘No Chance in Hell’
plays again as Vince leaves the ring and heads to the back whilst Joey Styles and Taz react to his announcement.

Match 1 - Balls Mahoney vs. CM Punk

In the arena ‘Big Nuts’ begins to play and the crowd chant ‘Balls, Balls, Balls’ as Balls Mahoney makes his way out for the first match of the show.

JOEY STYLES: “Here comes Balls Mahoney, an ECW Original, and therefore a potential pick for Paul Heyman.”

TAZ: “Balls Mahoney can be a dangerous opponent, but also a bit of a wildcard. If I was Paul Heyman, I would want someone a bit more reliable. Someone like Tommy Dreamer.”

‘This Fire’
plays and the crowd cheers for the newcomer CM Punk.

The match started with both men receiving cheers and chants from the audience, which was greatly appreciated by the two competitors. Both went into the initial lockup with big grins on their faces, relishing the chance to do what they love in front of a great live crowd.

Balls Mahoney took early control of the match, coming out of the gates quickly and knocking CM Punk around with his brawling brand of wrestling. However CM Punk managed to weather the storm and with Mahoney tiring fairly quickly, began to counter the ECW Original with more technical moves. However Punk tried to lock in his Anaconda Vice submission a little early and Mahoney was able to escape before he had locked it in.

Balls Mahoney proceeds to leave the ring and grab a chair from the timekeeper’s area. In a bizarre moment of sportsmanship, he grabbed a second and tossed it to CM Punk. Punk then allowed him to return to the ring before resuming their contest. The crowd were delighted to see the chairs in play with it being a very even contest between the two of them.

In the end, an error from Balls Mahoney cost him the match. With CM Punk against the ropes, the Hardcore Chair Swingin’ Freak went for a head shot, but Punk dodged out the way, and the chair rebounded off the top rope into Mahoney’s own face. CM Punk was then able to capitalise and lock in the Anaconda Vice submission and Balls Mahoney tapped out.

After celebrating his victory, CM Punk helped Balls Mahoney to his feet, and the two shook hands, followed by Balls raising Punk’s arm.

Backstage with Paul Heyman

Paul Heyman is backstage looking into the camera.

PAUL HEYMAN: “I’ll be honest with all of you… I didn't expect to be standing here tonight. So the fact that I’ve been given an opportunity to keep my job, and to continue what we’ve built with the rebirth of ECW so far… Well, it’s a far better outcome than I was expecting.

So the question becomes who do I choose? Who could be my saviour and potentially that of ECW? I want the man who wants it the most. Maybe because the respect me. Maybe because they care about ECW. Or maybe because… if they win… I will make them the number one contender for the ECW Championship.

The reason doesn’t matter, but the HUNGER does!

So tonight, to find out who wants it the most, and because it might be the last ECW match I ever get to commission, we’re going to have ourselves a Battle Royal. One winner. One saviour. MY pick to face Vince McMahon’s pick at Saturday Night’s Main Event.

And gentlemen… Tonight is bring-a-weapon-to-work day.”

Saturday Night's Main Event XXXIII Promo

Joey Styles and Taz run down the non-ECW card for Saturday Night’s Main Event, before talking about the tag team match made last week.

JOEY STYLES: “And further breaking news from Paul Heyman. The tag team match between the teams of Matt Striker and Mike Knox, against The Sandman and Tommy Dreamer, has just been made a three-versus-three, with The Big Show and Kurt Angle being added to the mix. This is following Big Show aligning with Striker and Knox to help him defeat Angle in a table’s match a few weeks ago, and then again to try to win the four-way dance last week. However, Striker and Knox’s action have gained the ire of The Sandman and Tommy Dreamer in past weeks, and both came out to support Angle in evening up the numbers and eliminating Big Show last week. Heyman has also said that a replacement would be found if Sandman or Dreamer were to win the Battle Royal tonight.”

Match 2 - Danny Doring & Roadkill vs. Mike Knox & Matt Striker

‘Teacher’ plays and the duo of Matt Striker and Mike Knox come out.

TAZ: “Augh and here was me thinking they might take the night off ahead of this weekend. Can we make sure nobody gives that goon Striker a microphone please?”

Unfortunately for Taz, Striker does gain a microphone and the crowd jeer him before he can speak.

MATT STRIKER: “Paul Heyman has been given an opportunity to keep his job. But let’s be honest… He doesn’t have a hope in hell. Why? Because the ECW Originals. They don’t think. They don’t evolve. They embrace one thing… Ignorance! And ignorance is the fastest way to failure.”

‘Loaded’
hits and the ECW originals duo of Danny Doring and Roadkill make their way to the ring to a better reaction than usual. They point their fingers at Striker and bicker back and forth.

The match gets underway, and Doring and Roadkill come out fierce with a point to prove. Striker and Knox seem shellshocked as they barely get in any offence. After a short while, Striker pulls Knox from the ring and they quickly regroup. From there the duo were able to isolate Danny Doring and would taunt Roadkill, causing the referee to turn his back to stop the big man from entering the ring, allowing Striker and Knox to double team Doring.

After a few near falls, Doring was able to fight back and eventually get the hot tag to Roadkill who cleared house. It looked as if he would seal the victory for his team, however as Roadkill picked up Knox, Striker was able to tag his partner. Striker bid his time. Roadkill hit his Barn Burner on Knox, then tagged in Doring. Roadkill held Knox in a wheelbarrow hold as Doring hit a top rope leg drop. As Roadkill left the ring, and Doring went to pin Knox, Striker rushed in and hit the Golden Rule on Doring. Before Roadkill relaised what had happened, Striker pinned Doring for the victory.

As Striker helped Knox back up the ramp, he continued to taunt the crowd by tapping his head with his finger.

Bite Club Vignette

We return to the gothic nightclub scene. Shannon Moore, invitation in hand, nervously makes his way through the crowd. He is dressed in smart casual, a far cry from the attire of the dancers who give him odd looks. He makes his way to the door that has the ‘Bite Club’ sign on it and hands the bouncer his invitation. The bouncer opens the door for him and Shannon Moore steps into an eerie smoke filled room.

The gothic woman who handed Shannon the invitation last week and takes him by the hand and leads him through the room. Sinister looking people, partly hidden by the smoke, watch them go by. The music from next door can still be heard, but it's much quieter. The woman leads Shannon to a velvet couch and gestures for him to sit. Shannon does and the woman stands to one side as a well groomed man in a burgundy Victorian gothic suit with a tailcoat appears. He has long black hair, a little goatee beard and in one hand clasps a scepter in one hand. Other people begin to step towards the couch and Shannon looks around nervously.

Gothic Man: “Well, well… looks like we have some fresh meat.”
He then proceeds to laugh in a slow, low, sinister way, and the crowd join in. Shannon cowers away from him and the camera fades to black, before returning to the commentary desk.

TAZ: “I told him not go Joey. Didn’t I say?”

JOEY STYLES: “Yes you did Taz, and hopefully Shannon Moore is okay.”

Match 3 - ECW Originals Battle Royale

JOEY STYLES: “It’s not time for our main event. Possibly the last under current Commissioner Paul Heyman.”

‘Bad Dream’
hits and Tommy Dreamer is the first out to the ring. He is pushing a shopping trolley full of potential weapons out to the ring. In quick succession each of the competitors make their way to the ring, with Sandman being the last to enter. In total there are twelve ECW Originals competing in the match.

Al Snow, Axl Rotten, Balls Mahoney, Danny Doring, Justin Credible, Little Guido, Roadkill, Tommy Dreamer, Tony Mamaluke, Sabu, Sandman and Stevie Richards

The match starts with everybody in the ring, each with some form of weapon in hand. As the bell rings, everyone pretty much exits the ring but under the top rope, either through their own volition or because someone has kicked them out. This leaves only Sandman and Axl Rotten in the ring. Sandman swings his singapore cane wildly at Axl, who uses a chair as a shield. Sandman has Axl up against the ropes, he knocks the chair out his hand and continues to smash him with the cane. He finally stops, bending down to grabs the legs of Axl and then lifting them up and sending him over the top rope and to the mat on the outside.

Elimination 1: Axl Rotten by Sandman

Sabu sneaks up on Sandman and tries to eliminate him, but Sandman holds onto the ropes and kicks him off. He swings wildly at Sabu with his cane, but Sabu dives at his feet and trips him. Sabu gets up quickly and stomps on him a couple of times. He then quickly springs off the second rope and lands a leg drop on Sandman. Sabu gets up and goes to try to pick Sandman up, but Sandman instinctively rolls out of the ring. Sabu looks around, he climbs under the top rope and stands on the apron. He sees Al Snow, Balls Mahoney, Justin Credible, Stevie Richards and Tommy Dreamer gathering to one side as they brawl with each other. Sabu runs along the apron and then leaps into the ground, knocking them all down.

Meanwhile the F.B.I are battling it out with Danny Doring and Roadkill. Little Guido smashes a green ‘Brooklyn’ roadsign over the head of Roadkill, who goes down to one knee clutching his head. Mamaluke tosses Doring under the bottom rope and then follows him into the ring, with Little Guido not far behind. Mamaluke whips Doring into the ropes and then joins hands with Little Guido to take him down with a clothes line. They keep their hands clasped as they then drop a double elbow drop on him. They pick him up and walk him over to the ropes and throw him over the top to the outside.

Elimination 2: Danny Doring by Mamaluke & Little Guido

Mamluke is first to turn around and sees Roadkill charging at them. He selflessly pushes Little Guido out of the way and then gets sent flying over the top rope from a big clothesline.

Elimination 3: Tony Mamaluke by Roadkill

Little Guido holds his head in hands, he can’t believe Mamaluke just saved him. Roadkill turns to him and Little Guido starts throwing punches, but they do little to impact Roadkill who takes him down with a big uppercut.

Meanwhile, Balls Mahoney slides into the ring with a chair. Stevie Richards slides in after him with a cookie sheet and smashes Balls over the head with it before he can get up properly. Stevie follows up by pulling Balls up and then taking him down with a neckbreaker.

On the other side of the ring Roadkill lifts Little Guido above his head, he walks to the ropes and then throws him to the outside, into Danny Doring and Tony Mamaluke.

Elimination 4: Little Guido by Roadkill

Justin Credible slides into the ring with a pool cue. He comes up behind Stevie Richards and takes him down with a side Russian Legsweep with the pool cue across Steve’s throat. He then rams the handle end into Roadkills belly and then as Roadkill doubles over, strikes it across his back, causing Roadkill to drop to the mat. Sandman then enters the ring with his Singapore cane. Sandman and Justin Credible then have somewhat of a sword fight with their chosen weapons, until Balls Mahoney joins in, swinging his chair around.

Stevie Richards catches Justin Credible unaware from behind and then takes him down with a facebuster. Balls Mahoney and Sandman brawl in one corner, with both having lost their weapons, which lie on the mat. Balls gets the upperhand and hits his Mahoney Combo on Sandman, his last punch knocking Sandman down. Balls waits for Sandman as he starts pulling on the ropes to get himself up. Balls changes at him but Sandman drops down, pulling on the top rope. Balls goes over the rope but manages to land on the apron. He turns to see Stevie Richards changing at him. Richards tries to knock him off with the Stevie Kick, but this time Balls is the one to drop down, pulling on the top rope. Stevie gets caught crotched on the top rope. Balls grabs the rope and begins shaking it. Stevie calls out in pain as he starts to slide off towards the outside. Balls superkicks him and Stevie falls to the outside.

Elimination 5: Stevie Richards by Balls Mahoney

Roadkill and Sandman begin to brawl as Balls slips under the bottom rope only to begin being stomped on by Justin Credible. Tommy Dreamer enters the ring and begins assisting Sandman. Meanwhile Sabu pulls out a table from under the ring and sets it up on the outside before being attacked by Al Snow.

Dreamer and Sandman whip Roadkill into the ropes, but Roadkill comes back and knocks them both down. He runs the ropes again and this time squashes Dreamer with a Splash. Sandman gets up and throws punches at Roadkill, who tries to block them as he gets to his feet.

Outside of the ring, Sabu crotches Al Snow on the barricade. He climbs up on the apron and looks behind him to ensure he is in the right position as he prepares to go for the moonsault. However as he turns back and hops onto the second rope, Roadkill whips Sandman into him and Sabu goes flying back, taking out Al Snow with him.

Tommy Dreamer slams the chair into the back of Roadkill and then tosses it to Sandman. Sandman rams it into Roadkills midsection, causing him to double over. Sandman then drops the chair to the mat and DDT’s Roadkill into it. Dreamer and Sandman then both pick Roadkill up and push him against the ropes. They both grab him in a front facelock, and then turn him around. They try to lift him over, but then Roadkill is too heavy and fights back. Roadkill then reverses it and tries to eliminate both Dreamer and Sandman at the same time. The pair fight back and Roadkill releases his grip. They both kick Roadkill in the midsection. Dreamer leads him into the middle of the ring, then turns him and whips him back to the ropes. Sandman pulls the top rope down, and Roadkill almost goes over, but Dreamer and Sandman quickly give him a helping hand and he falls out of the ring to the outside.

Elimination 6: Roadkill by Tommy Dreamer & Sandman

Balls Mahoney and Justin Credible’s battle moves out of the corner as Sandman and Dreamer circle around them watching, and waiting. Balls Mahoney goes for the Mahoney Combo, but Justin blocks the final punch. Justin forces Mahoney back into the ropes, and then uses the momentum to try to whip him across the ring. Mahoney is able to counter it and whips Justin Credible into the path of Dreamer and Sandman. They both use Justin’s momentum to throw him over the top rope and he crashes through the table the Sabu set up earlier.

Elimination 7: Justin Credible by Tommy Dreamer & Sandman

Sabu rolls into the ring and goes after Sandman, whilst Balls Mahoney takes the fight to Dreamer. As Dreamer and Mahoney’s battle slows down, moving to one corner, Sabu gets the upperhand over Sandman. He whips Sandman into a corner, sets up a chair and goes for Air Sabu - but Sandman moves out of the way.

Al Snow has recovered on the outside and he begins receiving great applause from the crowd as he throws every weapon he can find into the ring. Balls Mahoney and Tommy Dreamer take great advantage of this. They go back and forth, striking each other with trash can lids, cookie sheets, street signs, crutches, tennis rackets. The crowd is loving it. Finally Dreamer picks up a fire extinguisher. He rams it into Mahoney’s midsection and then blasts him with it, engulfing him in a white mist. Mahoney can’t see, and Dreamer takes the opportunity to send him over the top rope.

Elimination 8: Balls Mahoney by Tommy Dreamer

Al Snow enters the ring and attacks Dreamer from behind. He tries to eliminate him, but Dreamer holds on, and kicks Snow away. Out of nowhere Sabu runs forward and throws a chair in Dreamer’s face, and Dreamer falls down on the canvas. Sabu goes to one side, hops onto the second rope and goes for a moonsault, but Sandman is there to catch him. Sandman tries to eliminate Sabu, but Sabu holds onto the top rope. Sandman continues to try to push him off, but Sabu wraps his legs around Sandman’s head. As Sabu slowly falls down onto the apron, he pulls Sandman over the ropes with him. Sandman holds on, his upper body on the apron, his lower body suddenly slips. His hips and legs hit the apron, but the momentum causes him to fall to the outside. It’s one of those where you aren’t sure if that was meant to happen or not.

Elimination 9: Sandman by Sabu

Al Snow charges at Sabu, but Sabu, with the aid of the ropes, swings a leg up and kicks him in the head. Snow stumbles back and Sabu takes him down with a slingshot crossbody. Sabu gets up, but is immediately grabbed by Dreamer, who picks him up and then walks over to a trash can on its side and puts Sabu through it with a Dreamer Driver! Al Snow gets back up and takes Dreamer down with a running clothesline. Snow then follows up by delivering a springboard moonsault onto Dreamer.

Al Snow looks around as the crowd chant ‘E! C! W!’ He finds what he was looking for, he picks it up and displays for everyone to see - a pouch full of thumbtacks. He kicks away various items to clear some space, and spills the contents onto the canvas. He discards the pouch and eyes Tommy Dreamer who has crawled over to the ropes and starts to pull himself up on them. Snow walks behind him and yanks his legs up. He sets Dreamer up for a Snow-Plex into the thumbtacks, but Dreamer desperately holds onto the top rope. Suddenly the crowd get to their feet as they see Sabu climb the adjacent corner. Snow seems to have won the struggle, he pulls Dreamer away from the ropes and goes to lift him. However as that happens, Sabu leaps from his position and lands a diving leg drop across the back of Dreamer!

The impact causes Snow to lose his grip on Dreamer, instead he turns his attention to Sabu. He grabs Sabu and pulls him over to the ropes and attempts to throw him over. Sabu blocks it though and elbows Snow in the face. Snow staggers back a few steps and then takes another elbow as Sabu springboards backwards off the ropes. Sabu whips Snow into the corner and then grabs a chair and sets it up. He goes for Air Sabu, but Snow is wise and he drops down and rolls out of the rings to collect himself. Sabu grabs another chair and throws it down in Snow’s face, causing him to drop to one knee. Sabu then repositions the seated chair. He takes a little run back, before running at the chair, using it to hop onto the top rope. Then suddenly Sabu seems to remember what match he is in and hops back down to the canvas, instead deciding to strike his signature pose - pointing towards the heavens. This gets a mixed reaction from the crowd, some booing in disappointment, others seeing the funny side.

Sabu takes a step back motioning for Snow to get back in. Snow grabs the chair that was thrown at him and rolls back into the ring. Sabu grabs another chair, and the two have a standoff. They then watch as Dreamer begins to slowly rise. Dreamer, seeing both of his opponents armed, folds up the seated chair so it's a three way standoff. They circle each other cautiously before Sabu makes the first move. He throws his chair at Dreamer, before running at Snow. He ducks the swinging chair of Snow, rebounds off the ropes and then drop kicks his feet from under him. Dreamer takes a swing at him, but Sabu rolls out of the way and to the outside. Dreamer turns in time to see Snow taking a swing at him, and deflects it with his own chair. They both swing at each other and chairs collide again. Then a third time. The fourth time they both lose their grips on their chairs. Meanwhile Sabu as climbed a corner and launches himself at them. They both see him in time and between them catch him in the air. They look at each other and nod. Dreamer adjusts his grip so that he has Sabu by the feet, and Snow likewise holds him by the wrists. They maneuver themselves so they are holding Sabu above the thumbtacks. They lift him up, and then slam him down, back-first into the thumbtacks!

The crowd chant ‘E! C! W!’ and Al Snow gets wrapped up in the moment a little - but not Dreamer. He immediately grabs the first thing he gets his hands on, the squashed garbage can, and smashes Snow with it! He next grabs a crutch and smashes Snow with it! He grabs a cookie sheet and smashes Snow with it! Snow is against the ropes. Dreamer runs at him and tries to clothesline him over, but Snow counters and lifts Dreamer over him and the top rope. Dreamer lands on the apron. He grabs Snow by the back of the head and runs him over to a corner and attempts to ram his head into the turnbuckle - but Snow blocks it. The two begin trading punches, whilst slowly climbing the the turnbuckles. Dreamer almost falls back several times, but holds on. However it is Dreamer who gets the advantage, with Snow falling back into the tree of woe position. Dreamer hurriedly takes advantage, getting into the ring and then delivering a running dropkick to Snow. But suddenly Sabu is there and lands a legdrop on Dreamer

Sabu gets up. All across his back he has thumbtacks stuck into him. He goes for Al Snow first, slowly pulling him to his feet. He lifts him up and crotches him on the top rope. Sabu turns, and sees Dreamer just in time. Dreamer takes a swing at him with a steel chair, but Sabu ducks, and Dreamer connects with Snow, sending him tumbling to the outside.

Elimination 10: Al Snow by Tommy Dreamer

Dreamer looks down at Al Snow and then turns to a steel chair being thrown in his face. He drops his chair and slumps across the ropes. Sabu sets a chair up in front of him. Sabu jogs back and then runs at Dreamer, springing off the chair. He catches Dreamer with a high leg lariat, and they both go over the top rope. Sabu manages to hold on to the ropes and lands on the apron as Dreamer goes over him and falls to the outside.

Elimination 11: Tommy Dreamer by Sabu

Sabu wins, he sits on the apron breathing heavily. ‘Extreme’ hits and Paul Heyman comes down to the ring. He looks happy with the result. As Sabu climbs back into the ring, so does Paul. He walks over and grabs Sabu’s wrist, raising his arm. Despite turning on RVD, it’s very hard to hate Sabu, and the crowd are delighted to have a reason to cheer for him again.

Suddenly ‘No Chance in Hell’ plays again for the second time this show. Vince McMahon comes out, a microphone tucked under one arm, slowly clapping the victor. He stays by the entrance and takes the mic out.

VINCE McMAHON: ‘Well Paul Heyman, congratulations to you and your pick. I wish you the best of luck this Saturday… because you’re going to need it! Introducing MY pick!”

Vince’s eyes widen and he has a great big grin on his face.

VINCE: “Bobby! Lashley!”

‘Unstoppable’
hits and Bobby Lashley comes out, he has a mean, menacing look on his face. There is no posing and pyro. Lashley simply marches straight past Vince and makes his way to the ring. Paul Heyman backs out of the ring with a worried expression. He tried to pull Sabu out with him, but Sabu smacks his hand away.

Lashley leaps onto the apron and climbs in under the bottom rope. Sabu pounces on him, flailing lefts and rights, but Lashley forcefully pushes him away. Sabu comes back at him, leaping through the air, but Lashley catches him, he turns and then throws him across the ring with a release belly to belly suplex. Still Sabu comes for more, this time armed with a chair. Lashley dodges a chair shot and then with great speed grabs Sabu around the waist and drives him back first into a corner. Lashley drives his shoulder into the gut of Sabu several times. He then steps back and pulls Sabu away and then whips him back into the corner again. Lashley follows him in, but Sabu gets his knees up. Lashley stumbles back and Sabu quickly climbs to the top rope. He leaps at Lashley with a crossbody, but Lashley catches him! Lashley flips him up onto his shoulder and then delivers a running power slam onto a collapsed chair!

Lashley spreads his arms out wide and roars as the crowd heavily boo him! Sabu lies at his feat. Paul Heyman looks stunned. Vince McMahon has a Cheshire cat grin. The show fades to black.
