While the totals have yet to be calculated, Dave Meltzer reported in this week's Wrestling Observer Newsletter that last Sunday's Impact Rebellion pay-per-view is looking to be one of their most successful in years.
Headlined by Kenny Omega vs. Rich Swann in a title vs. title encounter, Meltzer said the streaming numbers at the start of the PPV were both the largest in company history and ahead of the total amount of PPV buys for any Impact show since Anthem acquired a majority interest from Dixie Carter's group in January 2017.
Meltzer spoke with one major traditional PPV provider who said that for their company, Rebellion did 2x what January's Hard To Kill did and 9x the buys of Bound For Glory. Meltzer said that late traditional TV PPV buys could add another ten percent when things are all said and done.
More info is expected in the weeks to come as final numbers come in from those PPV providers.
Hard To Kill did the second largest amount of buys in the post-Spike era just behind July 2019's Slammiversary.
While the numbers are up, Meltzer said they are still not close to the PPV buys then-TNA was doing for shows in the mid-to-late 2000s when Kurt Angle, Samoa Joe, Sting, and Jeff Jarrett were in the main event mix.
