We're in some very awkward positions right now

Well, if he wanted to do that, him dropping out of the TPP was the worse thing to do. Because that deal would mean those who are geographically closer to China would want to trade with you over them

And if he would have stuck with it and did some renegotiation, then it would have been better than building walls (metaphorically here)
