lmao people need to fuck off with this real quickly. His open challenges have done nothing but put over new talent and the proclaimed future of WWE. It was odd in 2014 but he's been doing pretty smooth all year.
Yes, it's what I meant indeed. I say it's odd because it is funny to think how one man so universally hated has legitimately become the best part of the show, but in fact it happened because he has been awesome recently.

He was beyond horrible Monday. His promo was cringeworthy even by his standards. Steen wasn't comfortable at all.

I know everyone is a Steen mark, rightfully so, but let's be objective. That shit was horrible. I have a bunch of people on another site mocking me because his debut was so bad and I'm a known Steen fan. It just wasn't a very strong debut. @Lockard23 can dislike my posts without having a discussion, but we all need to re-watch that segment if you really think it was worth a fuck.

What was so bad about it, exactly?

1. Owens confronts Cena and dismisses the fans, at which point Cena says that the fans are why the WWE is what it is. Owens completely no-sells it.

2. Cena offers some "veteran advice" (like he does with pretty much every younger superstar who steps to him in a promo), which seems to touch a small nerve with Owens, who replies that he's already a veteran despite being in WWE for a hell of a lot less longer than Cena has been.

3. Owens tells him that he has no problem fighting him but it'll be on his terms, not Cena's. He then proceeds to lay Cena out with the Pop-Up Powerbomb (and it's cool that he does this while Cena's focus is still directed completely at him, as opposed to only jumping him when he turned his back or something), and then in an awesome moment, stomps his foot on the United States Championship while raising the NXT Championship above his head, as if to say "Your title doesn't mean as much as mine does."

Without nitpicking (and I usually have an issue with nitpicking), it was fine by me.

I'm not sure if you have impossible standards or if I just adapted better for wwe standards, but regardless, I enjoyed the segment. The promo was really "prototypical heel", but I found it to be much more bearable in hindsight after fangirling over the powerbomb and him stepping on the title

I didn't think it was that bad. The bit where he goes on about how the fans are the reason WWE exists was corny, but it made sense. Also, it's really not just Cena's performance that makes him so enjoyable for me atm, it's mostly the booking. The dude is making a midcard title mean something and having fresh good matches with young guys every week, it's the ideal role for Cena to have imo. His promos have been really the same stuff as usual, but it's on a different spot on the card with different guys so it's good enough for me.

On paper it was all fine. It was the execution that was awful.

I probably do have too high of standards, but I am desperate for something to pull me back into WWE. If I were content with the mundane product WWE pumps out I'd probably be hyped for this, but at this point I can't just watch the same ol status quo 2015 WWE program and feel it is worth my time. They really need to up the entertainment for me personally and I had high hopes that Steen could be someone I could attach myself to and begin enjoying wrestling again. This segment simply fell way short of that and it disappointed me.

You all just see Steen show up and powerbomb Cena and that is enough. I see a horribly written segment and a cliche debut where both guys seemed out of place somehow. It just didn't come off at all. The timing of their lines was off. The delivery was half hearted. For both guys I know they were in their wheelhouse, so I'm not sure why they seemed so uncomfortable. Steen could have been nerves, Cena was just bad though.

I wanted Steen to show up and feel like the man. The booking tried it, but Steen came up short with the delivery. That is probably why I am most disappointed.

He was as choked up as I expected him to be. WWE creations normally debut strong, but IWC and indies darlings seem to have a harder time adapting, somehow.
