Gargano vs Ciampa was easily match of the night and had me at the edge of my seat the whole time, the tag team match was great as well, and Ricochet vs Dream was better then I thought. If Nikki would have won and the title match was better I could give this a 10/10, but instead of I gave it an 8/10.

Not one of there better Takeovers, but still a good show as usual.. Gargano and Ciampa was the best match, clearly it's continuing to the next Takeover since Ciampa got the win.. Nikki and Shayna was a huge letdown and Riccochet and The Dream was very good. 7/10

This was a good show. The NXT title and women's title matches weren't bad, but not too good. Ciampa and Gargano was a work of art! I mean, I was literally jumping out of my chair. I don't think they topped the last match they had, but this was a CLASSIC and a match of the year candidate.

Ejecting Adam Cole made me rate it lower though. He's my boy. But the match was good. Easily.

Tag Match ****
Velveteen Dream vs Ricochet ****
Women's Titie **1/2 Nikki Cross did a lot to try and make this match interesting. Her character was the only think that was great.
NXT Championship **1/2 I don't like either guy really. This match was meh.
Gargano vs CIampa ***** I loved this and it's weird because it began slowly. But the story telling was so fucking amazing. Plus, Gargano is freaking gorgeous. But he tells a story with Ciampa like no other. They need to keep fighting.

Aleister Black doesn't feel like the top guy on NXT. Kinda devalues the belt

Weakest Takeover for a long time and it was still good.

Not a Gargano fan but I bought into that match, I ould give it 4.5 or 5 stars. The title match was better than I though was not expecting to much.

Dream and Ricochet was also very good. Seemed like a fast even as well.

Tag match was a great way to start the show and even in defeat, Lorcan and Burch really shined.

Dream's attire alone, taking jabs at Hogan and Prince Puma, was great and if it wasn't for the main event, he and Ricochet would have stolen the show completely.

Women's match wasn't the greatest. Still was alright, but at least the character work from Nikki Cross was on point.

NXT title match I personally felt, THE botch aside, was a pretty solid afair. Black made Lars look like a monster and the Lars no sell of a Black Mass before falling to a second in a row was good.

Then Gargano and Ciampa delivered again. One of the most brutal WWE matches in a long time. Loved the callbacks from Takeover Chicago last year near the end and Gargano lost his cool, yet still frankly was justified and added to the final parts and was amazing storytelling. Drew McIntyre was right on twitter, Raw, take notice.

I came back to rate Takeover Chicago. Took me long enough to finally watch it, but..

WOW!

What a great PPV. I'm upset with the ending of Gargano/Ciampa, but at the same time... It was done well. I'm not upset with how the match was scripted. I'm upset that Ciampa pulled a fast one on Gargano. He's such a great heel.

Baszler vs Cross was better than I thought it would be... Nikki Cross is... something else, that's for sure. What a way to pass out. By smiling lol.

Rest of the show was great. Ricochet/Dream stole the show. Damn, that match was even better than Gargano/Almas or Black/Dream.
That being said, Black/Sullivan was pretty good too. Gargano/Ciampa stole the show as well. Crazy god scripting. Undisputed Era does what they do best. Lurcan & Burch... Why are they even relevant? They need to be replaced by TM 61 or Street Profits. Match was decent though.

All pure talent, and no BS cringe moments. 10/10.

I just want to point out that this was a predictable as hell show. All three title matches felt like filler defenses, but here we are praising yet another fantastic NXT Takeover!
9/10 as usual.

Gosh. I could gush all day about the NXT tag division. It's my favorite thing in wrestling, and it makes me wish I've watched more main roster stuff at this point. While it's a shame that Oney Lorcan and Danny Burch vs the Kingdom wasn't MOTN because the main event was that damn good... well, the main event was that damn good at every big show I've seen this year. This may have been one of the 10 best matches I've seen. The frantic pace, the crazy hot tags, the stiff shots the big spots... I can't put this over enough as an adrenaline rush match.

Ricochet vs Dream... I liked this match less than most. BOOOO BOOO BOOOOO. It's about 3 1/2 stars for me and probably better on second viewing. The match was good but not the one I expected. After the fire opener I saw the unbelievable athlete in Dream saying whatever Ricochet could do, he could do better, then we got a few spots playing towards that at the finish after a mostly technical/quality first 3/4ths of the match. Again it was a quality first 3/4ths of technical wrestling in a match built to be a real car-crash stunt show, largely I wasn't prepared for it? I guess you could say? Even after the end after the holy shit moment of that elbow drop from miles away and the glorious shooting star, I was waiting for Dream to start hitting 630 splashes and twisting corkscrew planchas and shit. Was that too much to ask? Definitely, but who knows? Maybe Dream could hit a 810 splash, he could do it better?

What I was prepared for and a match I enjoyed more than most... shocker... was Baszler vs Cross. Cross's batshit insanity really set the tone and it really felt like she was living this gimmick, and Shayna sold it pretty well. Lots of character stuff to make up for Shayna's shortcomings was sad to see, though, as usually if they had to go that far to cover it up there's a reason for that. Shame, since she has everything else down to a T. The ending gif was glorious and Shayna retains and moves on hopefully to Kairi while Dakota Kai is pushed in the background.

The NXT title match kinda felt like a nice Aleister Black showcase match, as much fun as NXT's Braun Strowman has been, Lars Sullivan really reminded me of Ryback in this match... and I enjoyed the Big Guy as a different sort of dude on the roster but Black really felt like he was wrestling a broomstick and got a quality match out of the guy, then wound up looking strong in the end... The little dude chops down the big dude is a great kind of finish really, it always makes both guys look good. Aleister's strikes wrecked the big and scary big guy.

The only thing I can really type about Gargano/Ciampa II is just how much fun it was to watch myself and all the wrestling fans sitting there in Chicago being kids again. It's not a story of how they'll do on the main roster, not a tale of backstage politics or star ratings or anything like that, for every minute of this match I was sitting here watching Johnny Wrestling with whatever bit of plunder he could get his hands on beating the fuck out of his former best friend who took everything for him, and like the bloodthirsty psychopaths we ate up every bit of it, especially after Gargano saw the wedding ring ripped off his finger and grabbed the stretcher and became just as bloodthirsty as the rest of us... and I hated the finish. My God, everyone hated this finish so much for all the right reasons. Evil got a lucky shot in and triumphed over good and for one night, kayfabe lived...

And if where we're going is Ciampa winning the NXT Title before Summerslam, then Gargano winning it before Survivor Series... Usually you can't predict something months in advance and watch it be good, but here's the exception to your rule. This. Is NXT.

(I miss being good at these lol)

Ciampa and Gargano are doping a tilogy, old school style fairly predictable who would win that match.

Sullivan is green as, got carried a bit but played his part well IMHO. He is better than say Big Cass already with less experience.

Yeah...I'm doing this...I mean I'm a week late...but I'm doing this...

So before I start I just want to say that I recently stopped watching
the weekly NXT show because of the way Dakota Kai was being
booked & I recently watched Lacey Evans defeat Kairi Sane
cleanly which is (IMO) complete & utter horseshit.

NXT is not perfect...as much as I wanted to believe it was.

I also think its pathetic that Adam Cole is not defending the
North American title on this show.

You couldn't book him in a triple threat with the Velveteen Dream
& Ricochet?

You couldn't have a title for title match with Pete Dunne?

You couldn't book him in a match with EC3?

Why even have the fucking thing if it isn't going to be defended
at the TakeOver shows?

Is Adam Cole injured? I wouldn't know because I've literally given
up on following wrestling news.

Anyway...now I have purged that negativity from my brain let me
share my in-depth thoughts & opinions on TakeOver Chicago II.

+ Pain!

+ No Mauro? Lame!

+ 1st Match: The Undisputed Era vs. Lorcan & Burch:
~ Wow...the Undisputed Era are literally like the original NWO...
only they can actually wrestle a decent match...
~ Not much of a reaction for Lorcan & Burch...
~ Where is Pete Dunne?
~ Lorcan looks like Cesaro...
~ Okay so while the tag title match in New Orleans was a complete
mess...this match was amazing. Seriously nothing is better than a
pure, fast paced NXT tag title match.

The Undisputed Era retain but the match itself was excellent.

+ Kairi Sane spotted! Trigger the Waifu Alarm!

+ 2nd Match: Velveteen Dream vs. Ricochet:
~ I'm not liking the Dream's outfit...
~ Ricochet literally looks like a superhero tonight...awesome!
~ I swear the Velveteen Dream gets better with every TakeOver
& he seems to have the ability to look good even when he is
defeated cleanly.

If only more wrestlers had that special talent.

Ricochet gets the win in another fantastic match...but the Dream
is far from over.

+ 3rd Match: Shayna Baszler vs. Nikki Cross:
~ Ugh...Okay...so I was going to write a long diatribe about how
the NXT women's division is basically empty after most of the talent
was drafted to the main roster & how Shayna Baszler is not the right
woman to rebuild the division around...but I can't be bothered...
~ This match was...interesting...mainly because Nikki Cross is actually
playing a character & most of the highlights of this match were fueled
by her unhinged ways...
~ Shayna's new ring attire looked good...
~ The crowd seemed distracted early in the match...
~ The finished was weird...in fact all of Shayna's TakeOver matches have
had strange finishes...

Shayna Baszler retains...which is no shock really...

+ 4th Match: Aleister Black vs. Lars Sullivan:
~ I honestly wasn't expecting much from this match...but I was pleasantly
surprised...both guys looked really sharp & they seem to have good chemistry...
~ Lars Sullivan just doesn't work for me...I'm not sure why? Perhaps its
because he always looks like he's going to fall over after every move...
~ So...Lars is using a diving headbutt? I thought that move was banned?
~ I could watch Aleister Black kick people in the face all day...

Aleister Black retains in a match that was so much better than I was expcting.

+ 5th Match: Johnny Gargano vs. Tommaso Ciampa (Street Fight):
~ So many, many years ago I watched an episode of Nitro held in a weird pool
arena where Chris Benoit & Raven had a "Raven's Rules" match where Benoit beat
the shit out of Raven for 20 minutes before Raven countered a diving headbutt
with a chair & then hit a DDT on to the chair to pin Benoit & get the win...for
some strange reason I was having flashbacks to that match while watching this...
~ And wow...these guys can tell a story...& with the match & result playing
out like it did...I'm guessing there will be one more match...
~ Both guys are great at selling & while I know wrestling is fake...I believe
in the (fake) hate they have for each other...
~ The DDT/pin was amazing...Ciampa yelling at the ref to count was a great
moment...
~ I enjoyed seeing the wood under the mat...a very cool moment...
~ The foreshadowing in this match was great with the garbage can in the corner,
the handcuffs & the exposed wood all coming into play much later than their
original reveal...
~ I honestly don't know where they go after this? A Hell in a Cell match maybe?

Tommaso Ciampa scored the victory & ended this show on a very dark note...which
worked perfectly...

+ My Personal Highlights +
~ The opening tag match...
~ Velveteen Dream vs. Ricochet...
~ Nikki "Crazy Cuddles" Cross...
~ Aleister Black kicking Lars Sullivan in the face...multiple times...
~ The DDT/Pin in the Gargano/Ciampa Street Fight...
~ The overall "flow" of the show...it was much better
than New Orleans (IMO)

+ My Personal Lowlights +
~ The lack of depth in the women's division...
~ Velveteen Dream's Hulk Hogan cosplay...
~ Adam Cole not defending the North American title...
~ No Pete Dunne...

All in All...another fantastic TakeOver show...& as much as I hate to admit it...
I'm going to keep watching these.

+++

On a side note...I was in such a good mood I decided to watch the fallout episode
of NXT...and watched as Dakota Kai was once again jobbed out.

Let me tell you it didn't take much for my good mood to disappear...

Ugh...I'm dreading Money in the Bank...

Gargano and Ciampa in New Orleans was the best match I have ever seen, and this street fight topped it.
