So, Night of Champions was a rather terrible PPV but thankfully the inaugural Battleground proved to be a superior show. Unfortunately, it still just made me thankful that I only have three more events left before I'm done subjecting myself to WWE programming.
Battleground Review
Hardcore World
Yeah, I didn't want to be a generic title for this match which I suppose was good but I wasn't able to get into it. Maybe I've been disillusioned by RVD's horrible performance at Night of Champions but this match didn't do it for me. I liked the Ricardo stuff and several spots during the match (the slingshot DDT, the enzuigiri & mid-air dropkick to the steel trash can) but I was never able to get into it and they never did anything to sway me to care. Didn't care for the finish either, it wasn't bad or anything but I saw it coming from miles away and the set-up took longer than I care for. Another spot I kinda enjoyed with the Five Star Frog Splash off the apron but I couldn't help but think why he didn't do it from the top rope? Like I know it'd be easier to stick the landing but I recall him saying in the past that, "I can hit them no matter where they are in the ring from on top there." I mean, that has to apply to a few feet outside the ring. Could've at least springboarded, I don't know it just didn't do it for me.

Santino's failed kip-up put a little smile on my face and I really liked the tag moments between Cesaro & Swagger but pretty much everything else was derivative & lacking anything substantial to make this match worthwhile until the big swing at the end. Yeah, I saw it coming (mostly because the commentators planted it in my head early on) but that doesn't change the size of the grin that it gracefully bestowed upon my face. Not sure how I feel about it ending the match though. On one hand I don't buy it as a finish at all but on the other hand, how do you top that swing? You don't.

Even Bigger Yawn
This is why I was disappointed with the finish of the four-way from NoC because obviously Natalya wasn't going to get a title shot & out of the remaining two competitors, Brie was the most likely candidate for next contender and of course, she got her title shot. Much like I anticipated based off those involved, this match was vapid, without even a modicum of entertainment/excitement. Hopefully that finish isn't indicating a rematch. Brie got distracted by something outside of the match, that is not good enough grounds to justify a rematch. At least wait until next year when I move on to greener pastures and don't have to witness it.

Rhodes Family Try IV: A New Hope
Easily the match of the night and while I personally wouldn't consider it the best tag team match of the year (The Shield vs. The Justice League from Elimination Chamber still holds that distinction) I would classify it as the second best. Cody was on fire tonight and his moonsault is still probably my favorite in the company (has been since Shawn retired) but Goldust himself was no slouch either (also, am I the only one who found it amusing that Darth Maul was the only one supporting the fight against breast cancer in this match?). My second favorite part of the match was when Goldust was trying to tag in cody, especially when Reigns took his time to stop him. Just a terrific way of showing how bad of shape Goldust was. Though my favorite part easily has to be the staredown between the six men at the beginning though I didn't like Dusty making Ambrose his bitch. I knew that Dusty had to get the advantage over him, it would have been Blue had he not but the way it went down made Ambrose look well, stupid. Hig big plan was throwing Dusty's hat back at him and getting in his face . . . when Dusty was clearly aiming to whack him with the belt. Ambrose saw him start taking his belt of before he went to get Dusty's hat. Why would he even bother with the hat? Because Dusty threw it at him? It wasn't even a nuisance, if you want to retaliate for that then do something you know is actually going to do something.

Bray's Match
Kofi was really on in this match and Wyatt himself put on a pretty good performance himself. At least he had moments that showed he could actually entertain me by wrestling (and no, I'm not talking about the backward crab walk; that was stupid), particularly the powerslam he did to Kofi. I actually rather liked the match.

CM Punk's Match
Okay, I clearly stopped caring about generic titles. From about the three minute point to until Heyman stole Punk's attention due to Punk being a conceited moron* I was tuning in and out. The parts I did fully pay attention to were mostly yawn-worthy like the parts that had me zoning out but there was some good in this match. I rather liked the finish myself but the fact that it resulted in a rematch is quite a bummer since I really don't want to see this match-up again.
*Not insulting the spot by the way. Punk's character has, essentially, always been defined by his arrogance more than anything else. The only time this wasn't an accurate statement really, was prior to his heel turn into the straight edge messiah & the formation of the Straight Edge Society. Granted I haven't been watching weekly but from what I can gather, what really started this feud between them was because Punk was insulted that Heyman tried to help him because the Best in the World doesn't need it, and everything snowballed from there. It makes sense his character would fall for that, like it'd make sense Brie would be distracted by Tamina choking out her bitch sister but in relation to the Ambrose/Dusty confrontation, I have never seen Ambrose's character portrayed in a manner that would make such a dumb move in that situation. Just wanted to throw out that I don't consider wrestlers doing something stupid if it fits the wrestlers characters. It's why I was uncertain on how to judge Kaitlyn's retardedness during the Payback match with AJ, since I wasn't familiar with her character at all at the point of that review.

The Ending Was My Favorite Part
Yep, I just wrote that. Let the hate come in swarms but I'll stand by the statement because it was the only thing that happened that was worth talking about. The entire match was meh and the only part outside of the finish that did anything for me, positively or negatively, was Bryan's rush of dropkicks on Orton. However, I'm going to bring up that the finish here, was actually not that bad from a narrative perspective. Before explaining that, I want to take a moment to say I liked that Bryan didn't even flinch when Show's music played like everybody else and get easily distracted like everyone else was doing. Anyway, the finish made perfect sense within the context of the story and was built up prior to the match taking place. I only watch PPV and skim reaction/reviews online and it was clear that this ending fits perfectly within the narrative. Bryan get's screwed again (which at this moment, is still a good thing) while simultaneously advancing the main storyline due to Big Show's involvement.
That said, don't confuse that for the finish eliciting a positive reaction for me because it didn't. Big Show is, more often than not, an entertainment vacuum and his involvement doesn't do anything for me but further validate why I only do this nowadays.
