Sony has announced plans to launch a new BBC Sport app on PS3 and connected Bravia TVs in time for Wimbledon 2012, which kicks off on June 25. It will offer live HD streams of sporting events including Wimbledon, Formula One and the Olympics, as well as on-demand content. "Throughout the London 2012 Olympics Games, the BBC Sport app will give audiences access to 2,500 hours of content and up to 24 simultaneous live events, all in HD," Sony said. "The application has been designed specifically for the 'big-screen' to deliver an ultimate home entertainment experience. The principal purpose is to deliver live sporting events where there are simultaneous activities or multiple camera angles." Edd Uzzell, Sony category development manager for BRAVIA, said the "killer app will provide a substantial amount of additional sporting content that you can't get through the current broadcasting model". Earlier this month Sony launched the previously Japan-only red PS3 in the UK.

PS3 isn't a PC, but they probably want to compete Xbox Live with all their new features.
