PWC to Introduce a New Generation of Diverse Wrestlers and Give Fans a New Wrestling Experience for the First Time in 20 Years.

21st Century FOX announced today that it is partnering with Professional Wrestling Championship (PWC), the new professional wrestling promotion featuring a world-class roster of diverse male and female wrestlers, giving fans a new wrestling experience for the first time in 20 years. 21st Century FOX and PWC together will build this powerhouse sporting league from the ground up and will begin airing weekly matches later this year. With this promotion, PWC is introducing a new generation of wrestlers to fans, offering sports based, gripping and authentic athletic matches that will make wrestling more accessible to a broad audience. 21st Century FOX will utilize its position as a next-generation global media company to build this league into a global pro-wrestling franchise.

Founded by President Tony Khan, PWC is headlined by all-star line-up wrestlers like The Young Bucks(Matt & Nick Jackson), Cody Rhodes, Kenny Omega, Deonna Purazzo and the legendary Chris Jericho. Mauro Ranallo, Mike Tenay and Tony Schiavone will be the voice of PWC and you will even hear the iconic tones of the great Jimmy Lennon Jr as MC for PPV World Title Main Events.

Later this year, 21st Century FOX will provide exclusive multi-platform access for fans to watch PWC events, airing live weekly matches on FS1 in prime time, as well as pay-per-view on FOX PPV. A leading digital sports enterprise, FOX's high fan engagement will provide an invaluable opportunity to build the PWC audience.

“Professional Wrestling Championship is a talent-forward, fan-first league whose sports realistic approach to creating high-quality athletic wrestling competitions is already making waves with fans and attracting top-tier wrestlers,” said Eric Shanks, Chief Executive Officer and Executive Producer of FOX Sports. “It is high-adrenaline, gripping entertainment and we can’t wait to bring it to fans everywhere with this game-changing new business.”

“Wrestling fans have wanted – and needed – something different, authentic and better for far too long. That time is now with the birth of PWC we now have the sports based, realistic presentation of professional wresting. We cannot wait to get started” said Tony Khan, President of PWC.

Focused on producing fast-paced, high-impact competitions, PWC offers fans less scripted, soapy drama, and more athleticism and real sports analytics, bringing a legitimacy to wrestling that it has not previously had. Wrestlers will also be given more freedom to explore their characters and highlight their athletic abilities. Introducing statistics to wrestling for the first time ever, PWC will raise the stakes for its matches and deepen fan engagement by tracking each competitor’s wins and losses as the wrestlers pursue championships, analyzing their moves, assessing damage to their opponents, and providing insights into their winning streaks.

In the coming weeks and months, more information about the first event, live on FOX PPV July 1st 2017 will be announced.

Long Days and Nights 2 - August - October 2016

Things were really heating up now, leading into the later part of 2016. Things were starting to fall into place. The philosophy of the organisation, some of the partners were close to been confirmed and in September, the move to Las Vegas was confirmed. Manson was happy and had already started looking at places to live. He knew for the first couple of months he would set up shop at the Hard Rock Hotel and Resort. It was close to the offices at Flamingo Grand Plaza. The Grand Plaza was chosen due to it's size and location. An old building and one that Manson knew would be only a temporary move but it would do for the first few years. Khan and Manson had agreed that a new building would be looked at once more staff had been employed and once the organisation had been established.

More names had popped up during conversations over the latter part of 2016. The first been Ronda Rousey. Both of the men knew WWE wanted her but they also knew no deal had been made. Manson wanted Rousey and saw her as a potential PPV figurehead for the Womens Roster. Another couple of names included Paul Wight who both guys believed could be a 'Special Attraction' type signing. Another, like Wight was Chris Jericho. Someone who they felt could ignite things from the off. During a meeting while Manson was in Singapore, Khan confirmed he had spoken to Kurt Angle about coming in as an elder statesman and cement himself as a legendary pro wrestler. Manson also felt Angle would be perfect for the first two to three years.

More of the conversations moved into the realm of seeing how to increase revenue streams outside of TV/Broadcasting and Ticket Sales. Manson got the ball rolling with speaking to various sponsors who would look to have placement on the ring mat. Something similar to NJPW and UFC/Boxing. It made sense, purely from a monetary point of view to do it. Manson had some ideas for companies he believed would want to be involved and starting putting in the leg work. They both knew this work, along with sourcing what venues they wanted to start putting on events at were the foundation for developing the organisation into the future.

Long Days and Nights - 3 - November & December 2016

It was an emotional last few months for Manson. He was tying up a lot of loose ends in Hong Kong. His last day in his old role with the HK Football League was December 10th, a Friday, which allowed him to spend a week travelling in Asia and some time back home in the UK before moving to Las Vegas in the early part of 2017. It was coming up to 10 years in Hong Kong and Manson had grown up massively there. It felt like home but at the same time knew he wanted a new challenge. Hong Kong been the metropolitan mega city it is meant friendships and social circles went quick and fast and people seemed to move all over the place. People would come and go, work visa's for 6 months or a year meant the amount of leaving parties he had been to must have been upwards of 20 to 30 over the Nine years he was there. It meant that while the place was super social and Matt had built quite the life for himself, it felt quite hollow knowing it felt temporary for everyone else. Until Tony's idea came about, Manson was quite happy to stay there. He didn't really think about leaving but once PWC and the plan for a new pro wrestling organisation based in Las Vegas was in play, Manson became more philosophical about life in general and that a clean break and new chapter in the USA was the best option for him.

It was late November and Manson was sitting in one of his favourite haunts, the The Spot Bar in Central Hong Kong, sipping on a cold beer and watching the Soccer on TV. Today was another big day. He was starting to put together what he believed would be the best initial roster for the promotion. On Skype, Khan was assisting, amalgamating the Western wrestlers of NJPW, and the full list from TNA, ROH and the NWA which meant a lot of names. It meant cutting the wheat from the chaff and creating a list of wrestlers in each weight division that could be the realistic starting point for the organisation. It was important for Manson to be able to create interesting angles/matches within each weight class and felt that tournaments would be a great way to tell many stories. As the deal for NJPW had progressed, they knew they would be able to use the 'G1' IP and create another version of that. An annual Middleweight - Bret Hart Cup would be something that could assist the more technical wrestlers. Kings and Queens Cup for Welterweight and Cruiserweight divisions respectively and 'SuperFly' were the ideas for the Light and Featherweight divisions. The same plan was made for the Tag divisions so that there was always something going on in each area. Always a cup, a knockout comp. Something that separated the PWC with other competitors.

These Skype meetings over the November were long but constructive. By early December a lot of the foundations were now settling in place.

  • NAME OF ORGANISATION - Team had settled on Professional Wrestling Championship
  • ACQUIRING OF COMPETITIVE ORGANISATIONS - Due Diligence was underway to takeover multiple organisations.
  • BROADCASTING DEAL - 5 YEAR DEAL With FOX close to agreement for PPV distribution as well as weekly live TV Event.
  • HEADQUARTERS - Las Vegas move confirmed with Flamingo Grand Plaza confirmed as office space on a 5 year lease.
  • SPONSORS / PARTNERS - Both Manson and Khan were close to closing deals which would bring in a fair amount of revenue.

They both knew that the main thing they needed to focus on once Manson had arrived in Las Vegas was the formalising the presentation of the promotion and start to look fully at the first PPV card and match line ups post WrestleDynasty. It was crazy to think that July 1st 2017 was only Six / Seven months away.
