WAUKESHA, Wis. -- A postal employee was arrested over the weekend after a report that a postal vehicle had hit several other vehicles on Blackstone Avenue in Waukesha.
When officers arrived at the scene Saturday morning, they learned the postal vehicle had been moving back and forth, striking the vehicles parked in front of and behind his vehicle.
Officers found an open bottle of brandy on the floor of the postal vehicle.
They arrested the worker on suspicion of operating while intoxicated.
Police said the 45-year-old mail carrier had a blood alcohol content of .18 -- more than twice the legal limit.
A spokesman for the U.S. Postal Service said he could not comment on the specific case but said that protocol for postal employees who are arrested is emergency suspension.
"Postal employees take their job with great responsibility," said spokesman Tim Ratliff.
When "an employee is arrested, obviously we want to take immediate action, not only to protect the rest of our employees, but also to protect our customers," he said.
