Perhaps emeralds? You can either mine them or get them from trades and they're a bit more common than diamonds because of this. But because they have value in trades their's still a cost to using them in a recipe.

I checked and emeralds are rarer. Here's the updated recipe:

Iron and Gold from caves are much easier than Diamonds, slime and lava can be found on the surface. What do you think?

Well, there's one way to know for sure. I'm off to hunt slime!

I was hunting for slime in a swamp for a while to make leads. Finally found one. Then I was mining and cleared out an area under our house area and accidentally made a spawning area for slime. After taking like 3 hours to hunt some down, I can just hop underground and find them. lol

I just had one heck of an experience in the swamp. I went and set up a little fort with a bed so that if I died I could respawn there right away and get my stuff back.

Well, to my surprise this was apparently the first swamp I went to ages ago to hunt slime where I died and lost my crossbow, Ol' Betsy. Somehow all of the stuff I'd dropped hadn't despawned and I had it all back. So I built up my fort and set my bed spawn, intending to shoot the crossbow from the relative safety of my fort. When night came I took out some skellies and zombies with ease but didn't see any slime so I decided to venture forth and try to get one.

No sooner had I left the fort when I was overwhelmed by zombies and died. I respawned in my fort, but to my surprise it was suddenly full of zombies. They stole my gear, including Ol' Betsy and my only diamond sword. I was fighting them bare handed and I swear every time i respawned there were more zombies. I got tiny bits of damage in only to be killed repeatedly after respawning. Finally I managed to kill them all. I had to have respawned 20 times. After clearing out my fort I was actually about to sleep through the rest of the night and give up when I saw a slime.

I found and lost all of my best gear again (stupid zombies didn't drop it after I killed them) but I did get 15 slimeballs and learned a thing or two for future ventures.

I wish I'd been recording it. BTW, do you guys mind if I make a few youtube videos of my play on the server? If I do how do you want me to credit you guys/the server? Should I mention the forum? Or should I just not do that?

(Sorry, my migraine medicine makes me a bit airheaded so I hope I'm not rambling too much.)
