What better time of year to watch prehistoric fish eating people than summer? The followup to the 2010 Piranha 3D finally has a release date, which is good news for those of us who can’t help but indulge in the ridiculous plot and more gore than you can shake a fish at.
ShockTillYouDrop confirmed the release date with reps at Dimension Films. According to their report (via Coming Soon), Piranha 3DD will hit theaters on June 1, going up against Snow White and the Huntsman.
The 2010 Piranha was directed by Alexandre Aja and involved swarms of spring breakers being torn apart by fish while partying at a lake. The follow-up, which is directed by John Gulager, will also involve an unlikely venue for its plot (piranhas at a water park), and from what’s shown in the trailer, plenty of young people serving as the buffet.
Ring Rhames and Paul Sheer will return, which is reason enough to see the movie in my book, not only because both are great, but also because the mystery of how Rhames’ character survived (it’s implied in the trailer) will be solved, as well as what happened to Scheer’s character Andrew Cunningham, whose minor story was left without conclusion in the earlier film. If solving these minor mysteries doesn’t do it for you, perhaps an appearance by the Hoff will. Or maybe you just want to see if the follow up can find a way to top the ultimate gross-out moment involving that girl’s hair getting caught in the boat’s motor. Begin the countdown to June!
