Im standing in line at Walmart tonight waiting for the line to move. A young kid stands in front of me with a cart full of odd and end things. No parent no adult or anyone else with him. He starts to unload his cart and you can see the wheels turn as he had left over money. Instead of grabbing sweets or drinks. This kid makes a mad dash for clothing. I asked him where if he got Christmas money or birthday money and he said not really. He had moved and was starting a new school. He had waffles. A new monopoly game, a football, 3 pairs of pants, socks, underwear and a few other things. After his mad dash the cashier stands and apologizes to me as I shy the apology off, he comes back with 3 shirts. He said that he didnt get much for Christmas and he needed clothes for school. He had 140.00 flipped out on the counter. Everything rang up to 144 and some change. He had to put something back. He could have put the clothes back. He could have put some pants back. No. He chose to put the game back. I told the cashier to stop and I flipped out a 5 dollar bill and laid it with his other money. The kid couldnt even say thank you as tears welled in his eyes. I said you're welcome kid and told him to work hard to play hard. He shook his head in agreement. The lady was giving me back the small change and I said that goes to him...she was shocked, the lady behind me was shocked that the kid would give up his game to make sure he kept his waffles and clothing. Kid almost made me cry.....dang....

So i'm at the mall the other day and there's this kid (maybe 10) on a bench, and he's sitting there, fucking around on an I-Pad. I over hear him say to his mom " Can you put this in your purse, i'm bored with it." Now this is the part I fly off the handle, and talk shit about the kid being a little asshole, and his parents being garbage, but I don't know what to blame this mentality on. Normally i'd say the kid is a spoiled little shit, but I was a spoiled little shit. I remeber the first little electronic thing I had, it was ninetnedo video game system. I got it when I was about 5 or 6 years old for christmas and I remember not even really knowing what the fuck the thing was. I remember my mom couldn't fuckin' pull me off it. I thought frogger and ladybug were the greatest things of all time. I don't ever recall a time where I said "I'm bored with this, take it away from me" and then wondered off. So how does this happen? Is it because kids have access to so much, that they don't even know they are taking it for granted? I didn't even touch a computer until I was about 10 years old, and didn't get to experience the internet until I was 14 or 15. I can only imagine my reaction to being allowed to use something like an I-Pad, or other type of tablet PC in 1998, because despite what I just said in the previous sentences, touch screens were still pretty syfy, or only available to major corporations then. Plus I hadn't even been on a computer, so I think my head would have fuckin' exploded. Now some kid, picks it up, plays with it for 15 mins and says."Fuck this thing, i'm sick of it, get it out of my sight" You could give them the "when i was your age talk" but kids don't give a shit, and you can't hit them because they made laws against that. You can't blame the kid because they're young, stupid, and don't know any better. You had to teach them how to shit in a bowl of water for fuck sakes. Even a cat can learn how to take a dump in their sand. So next time you see a spoiled little shit, taking technology for granted, just remember. There's nothing that can be done about it, just shake your head, and move on with your life.
