WWE One Night Stand 2008
Jeff Hardy vs. Umaga – *** ¼
Entertaining match to say the least. A lot of fun spots and stuff that went on. Jeff’s grind down the handrail was kinda cool. They battled to the outside of the building where Jeff hit a Swanton off the top of a semi onto the concrete for the win.
CM Punk vs. Chavo Guerrero vs. Tommy Dreamer vs. John Morrison vs. Big Show - ***
Another fun match. Big Show came out dominating and the other four slowly ganged up on him. An awesome spot was when Morrison came flying over the top rope and Show hit him directly w/ the cane. Also, Shawne Merriman got involved and ended up hitting Chavo after Chavo hit him. Show pinned Dreamer for the win after going insane w/ blood dripping down his face. More good stuff.
JBL vs. John Cena - ** ¾
Didn’t get to see all of this match as I was on the phone for part of it, but it was more solid stuff. A good brawl between the two as usual w/ Cena getting the win by choking out JBL with a chain in the STFU which resulted in him bleeding from the mouth.
Beth Phoenix vs. Melina - ** ¼
This was a decent to pretty good match for the divas sake. Two of the best divas the WWE has to offer and they did a good job. Nothing really to say except that Beth won after a good 5+ min match with a grossly contorted submission move on Melina.
HBK vs. Batista - ** ½ - ** ¾
This was ok. It started off really slow and even continued that way for most of the match. It picked up towards the end, but it really didn’t do much for me. Jericho coming out and doing nothing but make the match longer didn’t help either. Tista won after beating HBK up badly enough I guess.
Triple H vs. Randy Orton - ** ¾
Pretty slow paced match, but that was expected. Orton came out firing early with some shots. He hit a pretty cool stalled DDT off the announcers table. Orton went for the RKO in the ring later on, but was sent flying over the top rope and landed on his shoulder w/out breaking his fall. It was a rough landing and you could tell he looked to be hurt. I mean the funny thing is, is that Trips had to pull Orton up after an 8 count b/c Orton couldn’t get up by himself. That was pretty much the tell tale. Then the false finish happens and Trips just randomly pulls out the sledgehammer and nails Orton with it to get the win. After the match, he wasn't even holding his head from the hammer shot, he was holding his shoulder. I found that to be quite funny.
Edge vs. The Undertaker - **** ¼
Easily the best match of the night in my book. A lot of spots from chokeslams through tables, last ride through a table, a shove off the ladder to the outside through 4 tables by Edge on Taker which solidified the match for Edge after Chavo, Bam, Hawkins, and Ryder all got involved. After it seemed like Taker had fended off them all, Edge shoves over the ladder and sends Taker to the outside through the 4 tables for the win.
Overall, the theme for ONS was FUN. A lot of cool spots, and not a bad match on the night. I was happy with the turnout and look forward to seeing what direction that Trips goes now. Should be interesting. Oh, and you guys might want to check out the Orton/Batista and Cena/Mickie/Adamle promos backstage if you have time. It was some pretty good stuff and Adamle is just hilarious to look at when he speaks, cause you know he’s gunna fuck up. More FUN stuff
The only bad part about this show was the fact that there was no MVP, Matt Hardy, Kennedy, ect. I was kinda disappointed in that and figured we’d at least see a backstage promo or something.
