Bret is an entirely different kind of person. It isn't about being screwed over but manning up. I can't see Punk being a man about this. lol

I disagree. Punk and Bret are a lot alike. They likely have two of the biggest egos in pro wrestling history and they're both as stubborn as a group of mules.

But the differences are really irrelevant. People deal with hostility differently but more often than not are able to eventually put it aside (not always, I've held grudges for a long time) .The level of hostility Punk has for WWE cannot compare to how Hart felt after the screwjob and furthermore after what happened to Owen. If Hart is able to eventually put that aside. I believe Punk could possibly do it. It won't be anytime soon, but I think it could happen.

I think a man who goes to a company and has it put into his contract that he will never lose a match to Ric Flair or Hulk Hogan (two of the most successful wrestlers of all time) can't be given the benefit of the doubt that he's not petty. Also although I thought that the Montreal Screwjob was a horrible thing to do and I'm not justifying it, Bret should have dropped the title rather than electing to surrender it. I know Vince was giving him shitty options but that's how wrestling works. You leave a company, you lose your last match.

And no one can tell me that Bret didn't know that if he left without losing the belt and surrendering it instead, Bischoff would not have gone on and on about how he had the WWF champion that no one in the WWF could beat for the belt. Even if Bret didn't want him to. we all know the kind of man Bischoff was. If Bret was truly the bigger man, he would have dropped it in a match.

So no, Bret Hart and CM Punk are peas in a pod.

I understand what your point is But my point that you disagreed with is that Bret Hart was exactly the same way and he eventually got over it. So I was just defending that original point that if that can happen, it could happen with Punk.

It could sure, but Punk is a "modern day" Bret, and these modern day kids (I consider Punk a kid for many reasons) don't let stuff go. Think of how times have changed and how self-centered people are and are becoming with age. He is from a different generation. Bret and Punk may be in the same vegetable family, but they aren't in the same pod. Either way, I hope he does let it die for the sake of his fans, but I agree, if it does happen... Trust me, my field is psychosocial development. we study the changes people go through in age. These things happen with each generation and they're only different depending on how hey are viewed by the people inside and outside of the generation.

I guess so. I mean I am sure my mom used to think a lot of what I think about the younger generations. History does repeat itself.

Prince and Jacob are spot on here.
The Straight Edge Society was remarkably similar to the Hart Foundation of 1997.
The very basis of both groups was the same. The crux of their issues was that the fabric holding america together was weak and was in need of a better role model
What Punk was on the stick, Bret was in the ring. What Bret was on the stick, Punk was in the ring.
Punk told a great story with his mouth and Bret told that same story in the ring.

Both men are very thoughtful but don't appreciate it when their thoughts fall on deaf ears. Their selective memories seem to place blame at the feet of all others and not themselves.

But yes, I can agree with that. Thoughtful is perhaps a friendlier version of what they are/were in the wwe but either way, I can't argue against the above.
