A bout between two burgeoning welterweights has officially been signed as Montreal's Patrick "The Predator" Cote and Stephen "Wonderboy" Thompson have verbally agreed to face each other at UFC 178 in Las Vegas September 27th.
The bout helps bolster the card which will feature Jon Jones and Alexander Gustafsson in a long awaited rematch from their UFC 165 bout which saw Jones controversially take the unanimous decision from the Swede.
Both Cote are currently on three fight win streaks. Cote was awarded a disqualification victory from Alessio Sakara following a series of illegal punches to the back of the head, which prompted him to drop down to the welterweight division. There he defeated Bobby Voleker then coached The Ultimate Fight: Nations opposite Kyle Noke, whom he defeated at the finale in April.
Thompson himself has seen a recent string of success. After a less than impressive showing to Matt Brown, Thompson returned to the octagon a year later defeating Nah-Shon Burrell by unanimous decision. Since then he has knocked out Chris Clements and most recently Robert Whittaker; a fight in which earned him his first Performance of the Night bonus.
UFC 178 takes place live from an unannounced venue in Las Vegas September 28th.

Nice choice here by Joe Silva and Sean Shelby, UFC 178 is shaping up to be quite the card if you ask me.
