CENTRAL KITSAP—Kitsap County Sheiff's deputies arrested two elementary school students after a loaded handgun was found in one student's posession at Silverdale Elementary School.
The boys were transported to juvenile detention and booked on charges including unlawful posession of a firearm and conspiracy to commit assault.
Earlier in the week, one student asked another if he would bring his father's handgun to school. The student who made the request said that he would use the gun to assault one of his own family members.
The student whose father owned the gun, found a key to his father's gun safe and removed the .40 caliber semi-automatic and put it in to his backpack.
The two boys met near the bus stop where they tried to fire the gun. When they couldn't, they placed it back in the backpack and showed it off to other students on the bus.
When a teacher heard about the handgun, the teacher searched the student's backpack, found the weapon and carried it to the school's office.
A sheriff's patrol deputy took custody of the gun and found that it was loaded with 10 rounds, although the gun's chamber was empty. The safety was not engaged.
