WWE fires back at banned beauty: Spreading lies about drug test
The WWE is aiming for a knockout against wrestler Paige in an ongoing public feud.
A day after handing Paige (real name Saraya-Jade Bevis) a 60-day ban for violating the company’s Talent Wellness Program — then witnessing
the Diva call out the company through social media posts — WWE struck back with ferocity.
Paige and her father had suggested she had provided a prescription for the drug she tested positive for. The WWE thinks differently.
“Saraya-Jade Bevis tested positive for an illegal substance, not a prescription drug,” WWE’s statement to The Post read. “In addition, WWE is providing world-class medical care for her in-ring injury.”
The statement tries to discredit the comments of Paige’s father, former wrestler Ricky Legend, through Facebook on Monday afternoon.
“ok here we go again yes i know about my daughters suspension once again she has not failed drug tests,” he wrote. “My daughter has had a long term neck injury which imo has not be dealt with. i would have ask my daughter to return to UK For help with this injury as help and direction in the USA Has not been forthcoming imo. She has been in pain and out of in ring action for a fair while now and has been prescribed pain killers which apparently is against the wellness program.”
Paige seemingly supported her father’s account with an angry tweet Monday.
“Same s–t different day,” she wrote. “Kids … Please don’t get prescriptions or doctors notes. Not acceptable.”
It’s Paige’s second ban since Aug. 18. A third violation could result in the termination of her WWE contract.
The UK native is a two-time Divas Champion and was the inaugural NXT Women’s Champion in the WWE’s developmental branch. Paige is the only person to have held both championship belts at the same time.
She signed her first contract with WWE in 2011, and made her main roster debut in April 2014, when she captured the Divas Championship, becoming the youngest champion in the title’s history, at age 21. It led to her becoming a prominent figure on E!’s show titled “Total Divas” and emerging as a fan favorite.
But 2016 has been a tumultuous year for the WWE beauty.
Paige was involved in a physical altercation at the Money In The Bank PPV event in Nevada in June before both she and her boyfriend, wrestler Alberto Del Rio, were suspended by WWE on the same day in August.
Del Rio has since left the company, and it’s starting to look like Paige may be following him.
