So it's almost the Royal Rumble, and I'm going to do what I normally do at this time, and that is go through the 30 participants from last year's match and update where they're at etc, to see how "one year on" has transpired.
Dolph Ziggler - Current IC Champion and has gotten himself over as a very solid midcard heel. Big things lie ahead for Mr Ziggles
Evan Bourne - Injured
CM Punk - Coming off an injury, leader of Nexus, and a Cena feud in the works.
JTG - Jobbing on either Superstars or SmackDown
The Great Khali - Somewhere in India
Beth Phoenix - Slowly getting her stock back from a long injury layoff
Zack Ryder - Superstars regular
Triple H - Injured since April. Return imminent
Drew McIntyre - Midcard mainstay who is starting to show something different to his character
Ted DiBiase - Jobbing to Santino. Absolutely nothing going for him
John Morrison - Ex #1 contender to the WWE Title. Had a solid 2010, and is well pressed for a possible MITB story
Kane - Ex-World Champion. Rematch this week, should he lose, probably goes back in the shuffle until 'Taker returns
Cody Rhodes - "Dashing" is on the rise. 2011 should be his breakout year
MVP - Released
Carlito - Released
The Miz - Current WWE Champion. Phenomenal rise to the top.
Matt Hardy - Released
Shawn Michaels - Retired
John Cena - Involved in a feud with Punk, still having Nexus issues
Shelton Benjamin - Released
Yoshi Tatsu - Superstars regular. An underutilised talent for sure
Big Show - Smackdown's fan fave giant. A few good matches here and there but nothing of note
Mark Henry - "Ratings." Juggling between Superstars and the midcard
Chris Masters - NXt duties, and midcard Masterlock Challenges
R-Truth - Cena is his fwend. Midcard staleness at its worst
Jack Swagger - In the IC title picture, and is best poised to lift it from Dolph
Kofi Kingston - Also in the IC title picture, but seemingly stuck in the midcard
Chris Jericho - Sabbatical (w/e you call his break)
Edge - Current World Heavyweight Champion
Batista -Retired/quit
----------
So you have, of the 30 participants, 3 currently injured, 3 either retired or on sabbatical, 4 releases, 3 current champions, and aside from Punk and Cena, the rest staggering about the midcard without much direction
