Ohio Homeowner Captures Thief And Ties Him Up

ATHENS, Ohio (AP) - An Ohio sheriff says he doesn't plan to pursue charges against a homeowner who subdued and hogtied an alleged robber.

Athens County Sheriff Pat Kelly tells WBNS-TV the homeowner had a right to protect his property and himself. Kelly says that's what authorities believe the homeowner did Thursday when he chased the burglar and tied up the man's hands and feet.

Kelly says when deputies arrived to investigate the robbery at the southeast Ohio home, they found the suspect restrained in the back of the homeowner's car. He says the homeowner recognized the robber and went to his residence to subdue him.

Homeowner William Stanley tells the television station his video game systems were taken earlier Thursday, and he later found the man in his home

In the back of her car? That should be a fine right there even if he did rob her house, not a pricey one but a couple hundred. No one should be allowed to hogtie someone after they robbed there house, just call the police and let them solve everything.

Canada has a different set of laws/rules i guess. I'd probably just beat the shit outta someone with a baseball bat if they broke into my house. That is the most I would do though, the thing is.... you can hurt the guy all you want if he is on your property BUT she went to his place and hogtied him.

IF they were on my property, I wouldn't go to their place and hogtie them. I would just call the police and send them to his place...

I was thinking the same thing hogtying him is much healthier for him. I mean he did better than I would if i'd have shot the guy the guy restrained him hogtie being safe cause the guy can't kick or punch you and then took him to the police station.

There is something to be said about him not calling and having the police pick him up but in the county above us where my parents live the sheriffs don't even respond to burglaries either the police (no help outside city limits) do or the Ohio State Patrol does.

Reading the report and it makes it sounds like this guy went to the theif's house and hog tied him there and that it didn't actually happen at the victim's house. That is a bit odd if he did that especially if he knew who it was since he could simply have called the police and told them who it was. If it happened in his house then I don't mind him doing it, saved the police a bit of work.
