WWE Smackdown vs Raw 2008 - Fighting Style

4msl9c6.jpg

One of the biggest improvements in the upcoming WWE Smackdown vs Raw 2008 video game is the addition of the fighting styles to the game. While THQ has not officially revealed all eight of the fighting styles that will be in the game, they have told us about a few.

New Fighting Style

The game developers are said to be estatic over the addition of the new fighting style because it'll definitely change up the way people play this game.

While you will be able to play the game immediately, it will take some time if you want to become a master of each style.

No two wrestlers will be the same since you can choose and combine different fighting styles.

The match type also affects how effective the fighting styles are. While you may find success using one fighting style in a steel cage match, you may be at a disadvantage when you use the same fighting style in a ladder match.

Fighting Styles

The fighting styles that have been revealed thus far are as follows:

Hardcore, high flying, submission artists, powerhouse, brawler, showman, dirty, and technical.

Hardcore

Hardcore wrestling isn't just about weapons, it's also about high impact moves. It's also about being able to utilize your entire surroundings to your advantage

It's also about being able to perform when hurt. One of the key additions to this game is that some wrestlers will react strongly to blood coming out of their foreheads.

Guys like Jeff Hardy, Edge, and the Sandman should do well with this category.

High Flying

High flyers utilize the ring to launch attacks through the air. Sometimes, they'll even launch themselves from the ring to an opponent on the arena floor. At times, they'll even use their opponent's body to launch themselves into the air.

Guys like Jeff Hardy, Chavo Guerrero, CM Punk, and Rey Mysterio are perfect for the high flying style.

Submission Artist

Submission artists will be proficient in wrestling holds that forces an opponent to tap out from the pain. With these guys, it's best to attack a certain body part from the start, so you can end the match with a submission lock.

Chris Masters, John Cena, CM Punk, and Ric Flair are the currently confirmed wrestlers with signature submission moves.

Chris Masters does the Masterlock full nelson. John Cena has his signature STFU lock. CM Punk can finish off opponents with his Anaconda Vice. Ric Flair has won many matches with his Figure Four Leglock.

However, you can probably use most wrestlers as a submission artist.

Undertaker can still bust out his Triangle Chokehold. Edge can pull off the Edgecator. Randy Orton can bore you with one of his infamous headlocks, but it's probably not wise to use him as a submission artist.

Powerhouse

The powerhouse wrestlers are the ones that simply use more force than their opponents. They're the muscular beasts who throw opponents around the ring.

Think Bobby Lashley, Batista, Kane, HHH, and the Undertaker when you think of this group.

Brawler

Brawlers are the wild ones. They don't believe in putting opponents into locks. They just believe in using various parts of their arms and legs as weapons. When brawlers get into the ring, it's usually not pretty.

Sandman, Undertaker, Umaga, and Kane are going to be among the best brawlers in the game.

Showman

These are the guys who bring in the ratings and fill up the arenas. They understand that wrestling is a show. Theatrics are a big part of their matches. They're as cocky as they come. They're arrogant individuals who love to play to the audience in ways that'll lower their opponent's morale.

Shawn Michaels, Randy Orton, and Ric Flair are some of the best showmen in Smackdown vs Raw 2008.

Dirty

Ric Flair fancies himself as "the dirtiest player in the game". Well, in Smackdown vs Raw 2008, he's going to get a chance to prove that.

The dirty fighting style requires you to bend the rules as much as possible. You'll use weapons of all sorts. You'll use the ropes. You'll ignore the referee's warnings.

Dirty wrestlers will even be able to use the referee as weapons against an opponent.

Ric Flair, Randy Orton, Edge, and Elijah Burke are going to be the guys you would want to cheat with.

Technical

Technical wrestling is a thing of beauty. These are the guys that will string together a series of moves that attack a certain body part. Technical wrestlers know a lot of wrestling moves.

Ric Flair, Shawn Michaels, and Triple H are some of the best technical wrestlers in Smackdown vs Raw 2008. If legends like Bret Hart, "The Million Dollar Man" Ted Dibiase, Eddie Guerrero, and "Mr Perfect" Curt Hennig return, then they'll be guys that you would want to utilize the technical fighting styles with.

Double Up

With each wrestler, you'll be able to choose two fighting styles. You can mix and match just about any of the two fighting styles listed above.

Ric Flair can be a dirty technical wrestler like he is in real life. Or you can make him a dirty showman like he was during his early days. Also, don't forget that he can make you submit with the best of them.

Shawn Michaels is a high flying showman, but he can also be a dirty technical wrestler.

Triple H is one of the most versatile wrestlers ever, so you can use him as a powerhouse brawler, a dirty technical wrestler, or a hardcore showman.

There's just so many combinations you can use.

Closing Thoughts

One of the biggest complaints about Smackdown vs Raw 2007 was that it wasn't that big of an upgrade over Smackdown vs Raw 2006. There were fears among hardcore wrestling gamers that this year's version is going to fall into the same trap.

Well, this new addition (which is just one of the many new additions promised) eliminates that fear.

I'm gonna play season mode as Mr.Kennedy first, then maybe a created superstar,I'll probably play my first Exhibiton mode match as Undertaker or Bobby Lashley and just slauhgter a b***h or two, just to get used to playing it.

i either play using my created wrestle after filling up his attributes or just use kane...might use HBK or jeff hardy this time.

I have a few ideas which won't be on the game but what would be cool to have.

In the season mode if you won the MITB ladder match you could reek the benefits, in the locker room there would be an option on the desktop saying "Cash in" and in that night you would cash in your MITB contract. You could be smart with it be following the Champions situation or adding to you attributes to a point where youve filled them all up.

Also if during a match you could work crowd reactions, like when you hit a heavy move a bar would come up at the bottom of the screen showing how the crowd reacts and when it's full you would hear, "EC-DUB! EC-DUB!" or "Holy Shit!" Also maybe some comentator reaction.

What do you think of them?

I'm not sure if this was what you were trying to explain but it's basically building on your idea of the bar. There should be a bar going down the left or right side of the screen with how excited the fans are. A boring match which has like too much ground wrestling for example with result in a low bar but a match which has several spots (top rope moves, diving out of the ring) would build the bar up and it would affect your characters popularity altogether in season mode.

Does anyone else ever Plug in two controllers at once and play by themselves?,cause thats how I like to control the match, like I could have a good long Technical match to a fast-paced brawl and thats pretty much how I also get my created Belt's prestige up,by having good matches, cause the computers suck to work with.
