Sometime in the next day or two, the Obama administration will release a declassified report justifying a U.S. military strike in Syria, according to CBS News. The news comes just hours after Secretary of State John Kerry held a press conference in which he described last week's chemical attacks in Syria as an "obscenityâ€￾ that “defy any code of morality."

The CBS News report describes a meeting of Obama's national security team that took place on Saturday. The meeting reportedly included “detailed analysisâ€￾ of evidence about the chemical attacks that provides “a near air-tight circumstantial case that the Syrian regime was behind it.â€￾

UGH! I really wish the States would just stay out of this and quit trying to be the world police. The shit going on in Syria is crazy and ridiculous, but it doesn't involve us and we have our own problems which this will conveniently make the public forget about for a little while.

America has a fascination with War. Looks like the one in Iraq/Iran/Afghanistan is winding down so now we have to find another war to through ourselves into. Staying neutral is the best course of action right now.

With Great Power comes great responsibility.

The only reason we haven't had a 3rd World War are little incursions like this (from more than just the United States) that keep power hungry nations from growing and expanding their power. Stop them now or stop them after they grow and are a legit threat to our way of life?

Easy call imo.

We didn't heed Dwight Eisenhower's warning to beware of the military-industrial complex.

The United States needs to worry about its own problems. I realize a chemical attack on innocent civilians is despicable and is not something I condone but we cannot keep spending money to help countries that are just going to wind up turning on us in the future.

This is a terrible idea and I hope that it doesn't eventuate and if it does I want Australia to stay out of it. Chemical weapons are horrible and there is a reason they are banned globally but the west shouldn't get involved again. Also I recall that earlier this year a UN inspector said that the rebels used chemcial weapons so why wasn't there a response then to condemn the rebels?

The Middle East keeps saying that we shouldn't get involved in their business so this time we should allow them to sort out Syria. They can take more responsibility and look after their own backyard. It is a much better idea rather than continuing to invade their section of the world.

I have no issue with Australia giving aid to Syria I just don't want to be involved with yet another costly war.

War is good for the economy.

Or so I've been told,

Another disaster waiting to happen, and of course the UK is being the lapdogs again, following the States' lead.

Unforunately Australia will as well, need to stay on the USA's good side because we are a small country with a huge area to defend. We are in the middle of an election campaign here at the moment so if something happens this week things are going to get weird. Election is 7th of September and it is most likely that the current Prime Minister won't be Prime Minister after the election. Hopefully we aren't committed into anything by the current government that the next government will be locked into.

The President does not have power under the Constitution to unilaterally authorize a military attack in a situation that does not involve stopping an actual or imminent threat."

Obama said this in 2007, not anything real personal against him because other politicians have flip-flopped way worse, just shows the state of American politics though.

I have never heard an official story contested in the media so much as I have this.

How did we get from JFK's continuous resilience against the hawks and war mongers to so many presidents in a row who are so quick to bring the world to war?

Because a bunch of pissed off muslims flew planes into buiildings. Because Israel has this regime and country in it's crosshairs and wherever Israel goes, so does everyone else. Except Russia.

My point is America used to be cool. Now, not so much.

All I know is... I'm just sick of all this mess. The US is pretty much in heavy debt. unemployment is still sky high... and yet we're going off to try to help stop another war or something.

I dunno... I just think that the US needs to focus more on the US and all the issues and problems going on here. While yeah it'll look kinda good in the public eye that we are doing this... but this is only pushing us further back.

Plus I also think this might be a way to tr to get eyes off of that awful BS... Obamacare.

The problem is Slim, there is no way out of your problem, your problem is your system. And I say that with no glee, I love the US and we're pretty much in the same boat anyway.

Also think this is a convenient distraction from the NSA scandal.
