That's an issue for every country, it's not isolated to the UK. I agree that we don't need as much spending as that considering our size, and our allies. Whilst we shouldn't overly rely on the US, it's not a bad super power to rely on. However, it's times like this when we're a little bit grateful that our military is powerful. If it wasn't, imagine how vulnerable a country like us would be to nuclear blackmail. To make the capitalistic change happen, you need to be powerful. Whilst that is quite ironic, it's damn true.
Whilst I lol'd, that's kind of mislead I think. The UK isn't simply following the US, I firmly believe the UK is behind the invasions WITH the US, and not FOR the US. The two are the closest of allies, and when you're that close, you back them up regardless. If we went into war now we would 100% expect the US to get their asses in gear to destroy our opponents, that's how it is. If the US are going to go into war with North Korea, I suggest you prepare for UK troops to help them out.
I completely agree with the latter. It's how North Korea got to become one of the most powerful military forces around. They didn't concentrate on anybody but themselves. I would love to see the UK have more back bone though. There is no reason for UK troops to be in Iraq or Afghanistan at the moment (same goes for US), and bringing them back will save us money and help keep our troops safe.
