NoDQ.com > UFC > Nogueira ready to avenge loss to Mir
Posted by Randy Gordon on 03/15/2010 at 08:41 PM

Thanks to FightLine.com for the following:

Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira would be the first to admit that his landslide loss to Cain Velasquez at UFC 110 was devastating, but he has already moved on and hopes to get back into the Octagon with Frank Mir soon.

Obviously, Mir's immediate future is booked with a bout against Shane Carwin at UFC 111 on March 27th, but Nogueira would love an opportunity to avenge his UFC 92 loss to the former champion.

"Depending on the result of Frank Mir vs. Shane Carwin fight, we'd [like] to have a rematch with Frank Mir," Nogueira's manager Ed Soares told TATAME.

It should be noted this isn't the same Mir that Big Nog fought over a year ago that's meeting Carwin in a couple of weeks. Mir has concentrated on adding mass to his frame and is significantly bigger and stronger than when he was trounced by champion Brock Lesnar at UFC 100 last July.

It was Velasquez's speed and technique that was Nogueira's ultimate undoing. Mir has similar technique when it comes to boxing, but doesn't nearly have the same quickness as the American Kickboxing Academy-trained fighter.

Many were wondering why Nogueira looked sluggish prior to being stopped by Mir for the first time in his career. Following the loss, reports surfaced that the Brazilian had actually suffered from a staph infection leading up to the bout.
If Mir loses to Carwin no doubt who his next opponent will be, well that is if Mir can survive for a next fight.

I want Mir to loose only for that reason and that reason alone, but I see him beating Carwin though.

No! Mir needs to win so he will finally get his match with Lesnar. It's put up or shut up for Mir.

You know, to be honest, and from the beginning I wanted him to win because of the whole Lesnar situation. I still stick to it, regarding my last post. Because either way, a win or loss, his next fighter is not an easy one, and will probably kick his ass. I'd prefer Lesnar over Nog anyday.

if Mir has to work to get his rematch with Lesnar then Nog should have to work to get his with Mir. i find that fair. but idk the new Mir looks promising, much bigger than before, if he gets past cawring he better be working on sprawls and standing up after take downs until the Lesnar fight.

Also not entirely sold on Lesnar, i mean the only decent fighter he's fought was Mir. Couture was 46 and coming off a near 2 year retirement and Hearing was washed up. the guy has to be the most over-rated fighter ever but who's going to contend with his size? Valasquez i think has the best chance.

Mir barely had to do anything to get a rematch with Lesnar. All he had to do was beat Kongo, then get past Carwin. That is only 2 fights. Not much work compared to some other fighters working for a title shot. Just look at Cain Velasquez and he still hasn't gotten his shot.

If Mir loses this fight, he ends up at the bottom of the ladder. Why should Nog have to work to fight someone who is at the bottom of the ladder? If Mir loses against Carwin then Mir and Nog would basically be on the same rung on the UFC HW ladder.

^^ I think he deserves it. The way he manhandled Kongo was scary. Plus the fact that he and Lesnar are still 1-1.

And are you kidding me? Mir at the bottom of the ladder below Nog. That dude got knocked out in 2 seconds! Plus Mir beat him already. Mir would still be top 5 regardless imo.
