World Tag League & Super Junior Tag League (December 2) Preview

Second joint league night in Osaka

1121ジュニアタッグリーグEN-3.png

タッグリーグEN-6.png

The second joint night of Super Junior and World Tag League is seeing Osaka’s Maruzen Intec Arena rapidly approaching capacity, and World and Super Junior Tag Leagues’ fifth and sixth nights respectively. As competition heats up, tonight will be crucial to all twenty teams.
Watch Super Junior and World Tag Leagues live and in English on demand on NJPW World!

Main event: World Tag League- Los Ingobernables De Japon (Tetsuya Naito & SANADA) (2-2) vs Aussie Open (Mark Davis & Kyle Fletcher) (4-0)
WTLSJrTag_221202_10.jpg

Osaka’s main event sees the undefeated Aussie Open take on Tetsuya Naito and SANADA. The Super Junior Tag League saw TJP and Francesco Akira rocket ahead of the competition until coming up against an LIJ side in Titan and BUSHI that proved Catch 2/2 could be beaten. Will the same be the case here in Osaka? Mark Davis and Kyle Fletcher have been dominant to date and remain undefeated on Japanese soil, while Tetsuya Naito and SANADA at 2-2 are beginning to find their backs pressed against the wall. That’s always been where LIJ are at their most dangerous however, and Aussie Open are in no small amount of danger here in our main event.

9th Match: Super Jr. Tag League- Wild Hips (Ryusuke Taguchi & Clark Connors) (2-3) vs Catch 2/2 (Francesco Akira & TJP) (4-1)
WTLSJrTag_221202_09.jpg

After a mid air spear and Trophy Kill from Clark Connors in Nagano, Wild Hips put a stop top a three match losing streak when they put away Kevin Knight and KUSHIDA Monday. That’s enough to keep the two alive going into Osaka, but another loss will put them on the bubble tonight. TJP and Akira have managed to recover from their defeat at the hands of Titan and BUSHI, and picked up a morale boosting victory against HOUSE OF TORTURE to start their week. Will they end it with another two points?

8th Match- World Tag League- Bishamon (Hirooki Goto & YOSHI-HASHI) (2-2) vs BULLET CLUB (Bad Luck Fale & Chase Owens) (2-2)
Direct tag record: 4-1 Bishamon

WTLSJrTag_221202_08.jpg

Rivals over the IWGP Tag Team Championships earlier in the year, both Bishamon and Fale and Owens would have liked to be doing better than even heading into match five tonight. yet there is still much to gain in the remainder of the tournament, including two points here in Osaka. This spring saw Fale and Owens finally overcome a massive four match deficit career wise to Bishamon. Indeed, just weeks later, they would capture the IWGP Tag Team Championships at Goto and YOSHI-HASHI7s direct expense in a three way in the Fukuoka Dome. Will they be able to keep that momentum going Friday night?

7th Match: Super Jr. Tag League- #SAUCEHEARTS (Alex Zayne & El Lindaman) (4-1) vs Los Ingobernables De Japon (BUSHI & Titan) (4-1)
WTLSJrTag_221202_07.jpg

‘SAUCEHEARTS’ and LIJ collide in a bid to reach ten points tonight in Osaka. With the top two teams making the final in Sendai on December 14, this match may not decide the fate of the block outright, but it could well be seen as a turning point by the time the league is done. During Best of the Super Jr, Lindaman was 1-1 against Titan and BUSHI; how will he fare with Alex Zayne against the two together?

6th Match: World Tag League- TMDK (Shane Haste & Mikey Nicholls) (3-1) vs Suzuki-Gun (Minoru Suzuki & Lance Archer) (3-1)
WTLSJrTag_221202_06.jpg

TMDK are no strangers to Suzuki-Gun. When Minoru Suzuki’s cadre sought to conquer Pro-Wrestling NOAH in 2015, Shane Haste and Mikey Nicholls would be on the defending side in the face of the Suzuki Invasion, and this will be a violent reunion in Osaka. Only one side will leave Osaka on eight points, and in the important top two of the table as we pass half way through the WTL capmpaign.

5th Match: Super Junior Tag League- Flying Tiger (Tiger mask & Robbie Eagles) (2-3) vs BULLET CLUB (Ace Austin & Chris Bey) (4-1)
WTLSJrTag_221202_05.jpg

After an incredible hot streak to start their campaigns, Ace Austin and Chris Bey were finally handed their first defeat Monday in Nagano at the hands of Lio Rush and YOH. With Flying Tiger needing to get their own leagues back on track, Tiger Mask and Robbie Eagles will be keen to turn one loss into two, but will the IMPACT pair be able to regain the momentum, or risk stalling out?

4th Match: World Tag League- United Empire (Aaron Henare & Great-O-Khan) (2-2) vs HOUSE OF TORTURE (EVIL & Yujiro Takahashi) (0-4)
WTLSJrTag_221202_04.jpg

What a difference a year makes. 12 months since the then new HOUSE OF TORTURE threatened to capture the World Tag League trophies, and with their presence striking dread into their opponents and paying audiences, EVIL’s BULLET CLUB sub group sits at an abysmal 0-9 across both leagues. Night in and night out their attempts at cheating their way to victory have been quickly snubbed, most recently by Great-O-Khan, who came to the aid of Aussie Open in Shizuoka. Can EVIL enact his brand of ‘just’ revenge, or will H.O.T teams be mathematically eliminated from both leagues by the end of the evening?

3rd Match: Super Jr. Tag League- CHAOS (YOH & Lio Rush) (4-1)vs HOUSE OF TORTURE (SHO & Dick Togo)(0-5)
WTLSJrTag_221202_03.jpg
SHO & Dick Togo are mathematically eliminated
With current standings meaning that a minimum score of ten points is what’s required to make the top two teams in Super Jr. Tag League and by extension the December 14 final, SHO and Dick Togo have found themselves eliminated in record time. Their atrocious 0-5 record comes despite the constant presence of EVIL and Yujiro Takahashi and liberal interference. Nobody will be happier to see the HOUSE OF TORTURE downfall than SHO’s former partner YOH; days after handing Ace Austin and Chris Bey their first defeats, YOH wants to underscore his current success by hitting SHO with the former Roppongi 3K double team finisher.

2nd Match: Be-Bop Tag Team (Hiroshi Tanahashi & Toru Yano) (2-2) vs Alex Coughlin & Gabriel Kidd (0-4)
WTLSJrTag_221202_02.jpg

Despite incredible potential as individuals and a duo, the results have not been forthcoming for Alex Coughlin and Gabriel Kidd in this tour. Unable to gain results, they sit at zero points in a tournament where they had wished to make a powerful statement. Though a position in the top two now looks highly unlikely for the two, a win will keep them in the hunt; moreover, being able to defeat a team with the Ace on board will do much to make that declaration of power, but with frustration mounting for both men, can they come together for a key win, or will they drift further apart?

1st Match: KUSHIDA & Kevin Knight (1-4) vs Suzuki-Gun (Yoshinobu Kanemaru & DOUKI) (0-5)
WTLSJrTag_221202_01.jpg
Kanemaru & DOUKI are mathematically eliminated.
KUSHIDA & Knight must win.

Monday night in Nagano, KUSHIDA had a special gift for Kevin Knight to mark his confidence in the LA Dojo member, presenting him with brand new ring gear, as Knight seemed to make the unique step of graduating from his Young Lion status into ‘The Jet’ midway through the series. New gear and spectacular offence notwithstanding though, the two are still on the brink of mathematical elimination tonight. KUSHIDA and Knight must beat the already eliminated Yoshinobu Kanemaru and DOUKI if they’re to have any chance to make the top two of the league; meanwhile can the Suzuki-Gun side finally get on the board in their sixth bout?

Chase Owens to withdraw from World Tag League

noimage_news.jpg

Thank you for supporting New Japan Pro-Wrestling.

Chase Owens, who has been competing alongside Bad Luck Fale in the World Tag League, will be returning home for the remainder of the series following a death in the family, and will be absent from events starting tonight in Osaka.

We aplogise to fans who were looking forward to seeing Chase wrestle, and appreciate your understanding.

Tonight’s scheduled bout between Fale and Owens and Bishamon will be cancelled. For the remainder of the tour, Chase and Fale’s World Tag League matches will be forfeited, and two points awarded to their scheduled opponents. World Tag League night 6 (December 3) Preview

WTL hits its second half in Kakogawa

タッグリーグEN.png

After Osaka’s joint league event Friday, December 3 sees Kakogawa in Hyogo host the heavyweights, with a cheering crowd on hand.
Watch World Tag League live or in English on demand on NJPW World!

Main event: Be-Bop Tag Team (Hiroshi Tanahashi & Toru Yano) (3-2) vs Los Ingobernables De Japon (Tetsuya Naito & SANADA) (4-2)
Tag record: 1-0 Naito & SANADA
WTLSJrTag_221203_08.jpg

At 3-2, and 4-2 with the forfeit of Bad Luck Fale and Chase Owens, Tetsuya Naito and SANADA have been consistently inconsistent in the first half of their campaign, but they inarguably have gotten the highest quality win possible in the league to date. their main event victory over Aussie Open Friday in Osaka have kept them firmly in the mix, but Be-Bop Tag Team have been creeping up.
Incurring their own two losses at the start of their campaign, and without the benefit of a guaranteed forfeit two points, Tanahashi and Yano have won their last three, and want to join their opponents tonight on eight points. That would put both teams with backs against the wall, but still with victory a possibility that they will fight to cling onto.

7th Match: Suzuki-Gun (Lance Archer & Minoru Suzuki) (3-2) vs HOUSE OF TORTURE (EVIL & Yujiro Takahashi) (0-5)
WTLSJrTag_221203_07.jpg

EVIL and Yujiro are mathematically eliminated
Fans in Osaka Friday night had expected a violent drag out affair between TMDK and Lance Archer and Minoru Suzuki. What they got was violent, but not a drawn out affair. A shock flash pin saw Shane Haste get the W over Minoru Suzuki in under 90 seconds, and incurred Suzuki-Gun a loss that they will look to furiously avenge here in Hyogo. As EVIL and Yujiro takahashi are now officially out of the WTL running, might they seek to exploit Suzuki-Gun anger to put this duo out as well?

6th Match: Bishamon (YOSHI-HASHI & Hirooki Goto) (3-2) vs United Empire (Great-O-Khan & Aaron Henare) (4-2)
Tag record: 1-0 Goto & YOSHI-HASHI

WTLSJrTag_221203_06.jpg

After a night’s break, the refreshed Bishamon head to face Great-O-Khan and Aaron Henare. This is a duo Goto and YOSHI-HASHI beat in last year’s league, and with Henare and O-Khan having had to work for their points yesterday as a forfeit win led to a much deserved Bihsamon break, the CHAOS side will be the favourites this evening.

4th Match: Gabriel Kidd & Alex Coughlin (0-5) vs Aussie Open (Kyle Fletcher & Mark Davis) (5-1)
WTLSJrTag_221203_04.jpg

Kidd and Coughlin are mathematically eliminated
Two ends of the table meet in the first league match of the evening. Friday night’s loss to Hiroshi Tanahashi and Toru Yano put Gabriel Kidd and Alex Coughlin’s elimination from World Tag League out of any doubt. Yet there is still a lot to fight for for the LA Dojo duo. After Naito and SANADA proved that Aussie Open can indeed be beaten with an impressive Osaka victory, Kidd and Coughlin could instantly wipe away bad memories of their poor World Tag League start with an upset victory to start the official matches in Hyogo.

4th Match: Kevin Knight, KUSHIDA, Master Wato & Tomoaki Honma vs Los Ingobernables De Japon (SHingo Takagi, Hiromu Takahashi, BUSHI & Titan)
WTLSJrTag_221203_03.jpg

Eight man action will see Hontai and LIJ do battle. With Kevin Knight’s newfound attitude and confidence going up against the likes of SHingo Takagi and Hiromu Takahashi, there’ll be added spice to this eight man bout.

3rd Match: Suzuki-Gun (Yoshinobu Kanemaru, El Desperado & DOUKI) vs BULLET CLUB (Taiji Ishimori, Gedo & Ace Austin)
WTLSJrTag_221203_02.jpg

El Desperado and Taiji Ishimori engage in a six man preview of Wrestle Kingdom’s IWGP Junior Heavyweight four way tonight. As Ishimori enlists Gedo and Ace Austin, will Yoshinobu Kanemaru and DOUKI, unable to claim points in Super Junior Tag League, get results for Suzuki-Gun?

2nd Match: Kosei Fujita & Oskar Leube vs TMDK (Shane Haste & Mikey Nicholls)
WTLSJrTag_221203_02-1.jpg

After Bad Luck fale and Chase Owens were forced to withdraw from World Tag League, TMDK pick up two points by forfeit tonight, but will still have their working boots on against Young Lions, Shane Haste and Mikey Nicholls looking to deliver some harsh lessons in tag team wrestling.

1st Match: Ryohei Oiwa vs Bad Luck Fale
WTLSJrTag_221203_01-1.jpg

Bad Luck Fale will still be going to work as well tonight, albeit earlier than expected against Ryohei Oiwa. He’ll be fighting for an early night as well, as he takes out frustrations at his team’s trophy forfeiture.

Outside of my boys in Ace Austin and Bey I've been really pulling for YOH and Rush in this one. Rush have raised the Game of YOH while helping him bring out that swagger Lio has during Matches they have had together.

Call me crazy but I might enjoy them together more than I ever did Sho and Yoh, the dynamic is just great

No Conners we don't put the Beer with the Ramen. The other day I had some real legit Japanese Ramen not the stuff you get in the Grocery Store for the first time I think I reached Heaven after I had some.
