New Young Lions to debut in World Tag League kickoffs!

Shoma Kato and Katsuya Murashima to get their in ring starts

World Tag League will get underway on November 20 and 21, and so will the careers of two new Young Lions, who will make their debuts in the kickoffs to each event.
Watch live in English on NJPW World!

1120_0.jpg

On November 20, Oskar Leube will go up against Shoma Kato. 173cm, 82 kg Kato played baseball through high school in his native Osaka. Transitioning into MMA and grappling practice in his senior year with a view to getting into professional wrestling, the 20 year old won the hearts and minds of viewers of The Spirit, a reality TV show produced by Kazuchika Okada that followed Dojo hopefuls. Now, discerning eyes will be on him looking to make an impact on NJPW fans moving forward.

1121_0.jpg

The next night, Yuto Nakashima will face Katsuya Murashima. 23 year old Murashima has a nine year background in amateur wrestling, where after his upbringing in Ibaraki, a college career saw him a regional champion in eastern Japan at 86 and 92 kg, and where he came second at the national level. Could he gain worldwide success in NJPW? His journey starts Tuesday November 21.

Weird pairing for Soberano Jr and Atlantis Jr. Atlantis is a face while Soberano turned heel and he is probably the top heel of CMLL right now.

World Tag League night 1 (November 20) Preview

Tag tournament gets underway, new Young Lion to debut

en_a.png

World Tag League gets underway from Korakuen on November 20, with the eight teams of A Block getting their first matches underway. With this perhaps the most heavily stacked and competitive lineups in some years for the tournament, all eyes will be on what teams new and familiar will be a part of the action.
Watch LIVE in English, FREE on NJPW World!

Main event: WTL A Block- Ren Narita & Shota Umino vs United Empire (HENARE & Great-O-Khan)
1120_8.jpg

The first main event of the tournament pits Great-O-Khan and HENARE against Shota Umino and Ren Narita. On the run-up to Power Struggle, Umino and Narita often found themselves tagging against United Empire forces. The autumn tour ended poorly for all concerned in this matchup, with Shota Umino suffering an emotional but hard fought loss to Will Ospreay, Great-O-Khan falling in a bloody brawl to Jon Moxley, and HENARE coming short of the NJPW STRONG Openweight Championship against Eddie Kingston in Las Vegas. With stakes high in World Tag League, all four of these men are eager to make a statement from night one.

7th Match: WTL A Block- Ryohei Oiwa & Kaito Kiyomiya vs BULLET CLUB War Dogs (Gabe Kidd & Alex Coughlin)
1120_7.jpg

Things will get heated from day one in the World Tag League when Gabe Kidd and Alex Coughlin face NOAH’s Ryohei Oiwa and Kaito Kiyomiya. While fans are no doubt excited to see Oiwa back in an NJPW ring for the first time since he challenged for the NJPW World TV Championship earlier in September, the real powder keg looking to explode here is between Kidd and Kiyomiya. A wild fight in the G1 saw both men counted out, brawling all over the Ota City Gymnasium, and both men are hungry for part two tonight.

6th Match: WTL A Block- CHAOS (Tomohiro Ishii &Toru Yano) vs HOUSE OF TORTURE (EVIL & Yujiro Takahashi)
Tag record: 1-0 HOUSE OF TORTURE

crs_451256_4.jpg

The long war between CHAOS and HOUSE OF TORTURE continues, and with two points on the line at the start of World Tag League. EVIL and Yujiro hold a WTL win over Yano and Ishii from 2020’s league; will Ishii and Yano even the ledger to start this year’s?

5th Match: WTL A Block- TMDK (Shane Haste & Mikey Nicholls) vs Gates of Agony (Bishop Kaun & Toa Liona)
crs_442914_3.jpg

Hotly anticipated since the lineups were first announced, the Gates of Agony make their NJPW debuts in the first World Tag League match of the tournament. Two thirds of the ROH 6 Man Tag team Champions, Prince Nana’s charges are a tough team on a rapid ascent, but they have more than their work cut out for them in the face of Haste and Nicholls. Who gets the first two points of the tournament?

4th Match: CHAOS (YOH, YOSHI-HASHI & Hirooki Goto) vs Guerrillas of Destiny (El Phantasmo, Hikuleo & Jado)
crs_442914_2.jpg

With Hikuleo and El Phantasmo taking on Bishamon in a battle of NJPW STRONG and IWGP Tag Team Champions Wednesday in Yokohama Budokan, here we see a preview of that champion versus champion main event.

3rd Match: Just Five Guys (Yuya Uemura, Yota Tsuji & SANADA) vs Los Ingobernables De Japon (Yota Tsuji, Z & BUSHI)
crs_451269_6-2.jpg

Korakuen Hall will get their first exposure to Yota Tsuji’s tag team partner for the series in what is a big preview of Yokohama Budokan on Thursday. Yota Tsuji and Yuya Uemura will be the story heading into Yokohama, especially after Tsuji pinned Uemura back at Power Struggle to continue asserting an advantage he feels he’s held since before the two went on excursion. They’ll pick up where they left off in Osaka tonight, but there are a lot of additional X (indeed, Z) factors to be aware of here.

2nd Match: Alex Zayne, Lance Archer, Minoru Suzuki & Yuji Nagata vs BULLET CLUB (Bad Luck Fale, Jack Bonza, Taiji Ishimori & Gedo)

crs_450454_8.jpg

While this match certainly carries the theme of strange unions in Korakuen for the first time, Minoru Suzuki teaming with Yuji Nagata, while the Rogue Army of Bad Luck Fale and Jack Bonza arrive in Japan, there is also the theme of reunion here. Nagata faces off against his former protege and final G1 opponent in Fale, while former Suzuki-Gun teammates, and partners in last year’s league, Lance Archer and Minoru Suzuki team again, before they are opponents later in the league.

1st Match: Soberano Jr. & Atlantis Jr. vs Just Five Guys (TAKA Michinoku & DOUKI)
crs_444400_9.jpg

After Soberano Jr. made a turn on his tecnico allies in CMLL recently, and called out Atlantis Jr. post match, what was going to be an intriguing enough CMLL side in World Tag League now has the dynamic of relevos increibles- a rudo and tecnico tandem. While it seems the two are on the same page for now, will they have enough to defeat a well oiled, albeit junior heavyweight team of DOUKI and TAKA?

Kickoff Match: Oskar Leube vs Shoma Kato
1120_0.jpg

30 minutes before official bell, at 6PM local, the first event of World Tag League kicks off with the first steps in a NJPW ring in anger for Shoma Kato. 20 year old Kato will give up a fair bit of size and experience to Oskar Leube, but the young man, a graduate of kazuchika Okada’s reality TV show The Spirit will be looking to show the benefit of his months of training in the biggestmoment of his young life.

World Tag League night 2 (November 21) Preview

Second of Korakuen double header
en_b-1.png

The second of two nights in Korakuen Hall sees the B Block get underway in World Tag League. Who will set the early pace in the premier heavyweight tag tournament?
Watch LIVE in English on NJPW World!

Main event: WTL B Block- Bishamon (Hirooki Goto & YOSHI-HASHI) vs Guerrillas of Destiny (El Phantasmo & Hikuleo)
20231121_WTL_08.jpg

It’s champion versus champion in our main event, as IWGP Tag Team Champions Bishamon face NJPW STRONG Openweight Tag Team Champions Hikuleo and El Phantasmo. The GoD side has impressed in two defences of their tag titles Stateside ahead of this return to Japan, but their opposition are three time champions looking for their unprecedented third straight World Tag League trophies. Ripe targets to be knocked off their throne, or too much for the relatively fresh team to handle?

7th Match: WTL B Block- Just Five Guys (Yuya Uemura & Taichi) vs Los Ingobernables De Japon (Yota Tsuji & Zandokan Jr.)
20231121_WTL_07.jpg

After Yota Tsuji made all clear in Yamagata Friday, Zandokan Jr will join him for his World Tag League campaign. Tsuji connected with the CMLL rookie when he was on excursion, and this lucha estrella with bags of potential will be looking to show up and show out in the tournament. Opposite the two are Taichi and Yuya Uemura- when Uemura and SANADA faced Tsuji and Tetsuya Naito at Power Struggle, the result was Uemura being speared out of his boots and pinned, but will Heat Storm get revenge, and two points on the board?

6th Match: WTL B Block- Monstersauce (Alex Zayne & Lance Archer) vs BULLET CLUB Rogue Army (Bad Luck Fale & Jack Bonza)
20231121_WTL_06.jpg
The Monstersauce team of Lance Archer and Alex Zayne make their World Tag League debuts and with opposition with whom Archer is well familiar. Archer and Minoru Suzuki defeated Bad Luck Fale and Chase Owens to kick off their tag league campaign last year, revenge that stemmed from a countout loss for Archer against Fale earlier that year in the G1. Will Fale’s new partner, Australian grappling specialist Bonza be enough to see Rogue Army to victory over the imposing Archer and spectacular Zayne?

5th Match: Minoru Suzuki & Yuji Nagata vs Atlantis Jr. & Soberano Jr.
20231121_WTL_05.jpg

The first match of B Block in World Tag League is what Mexico might well call a relevos increibles tag team bout. While indications in Arena Mexico just recently are that Soberano and Atlantis Jr will agree to work together for as long as this tour lasts at least, Soberano’s recent turn tot he rudo side of the CMLL forces has seen him calling out dformer friends and new enemies- Atlantis Jr included.
Meanwhile Minoru Suzuki and Yuji Nagata are facing almost an opposite scenario. Bitter enemies for over twenty years, some measure of mutual respect has seen them team together in World Tag League, but this partnership most certainly should not be construed as a friendly one. Who will be able to coexist better?

4th Match: TMDK (Kosei Fujita, Shane Haste & Mikey Nicholls) vs HOUSE OF TORTURE (EVIL, Yujiro Takahashi & Dick Togo)
20231121_WTL_04.jpg

A preview of Yokohma’s Thursday clash between Shane Haste and Mikey Nicholls and EVIL and Yujiro Takahashi, six man action sees Kosei Fujita back in the mix. ‘Ichiban Sweet Boy’ has been the secret weapon for TMDK members against HOUSE OF TORTURE for quite some time- will he be the key to victory tonight?

3rd Match: Shota Umino, Ren Narita, Master Wato & Tiger Mask vs BULLET CLUB (Gabe Kidd, Alex Coughlin, Taiji Ishimori & Gedo)
20231121_WTL_03.jpg

Eight man action will see a preview of Umino and Narita vs Kidd and Coughlin for Thursday in Yokohama. Kidd was one up and one down in his G1 matches against Ren and Shota- BULLET CLUB are sure to run wild to have the War Dogs in a strong position for their second league match coming up.

2nd Match: United Empire (HENARE, Great-O-Khan & Callum Newman) vs Kaito Kiyomiya, Shota Umino & Boltin Oleg
20231121_WTL_02.jpg

A highly intriguing trios bout previews a very attractive matchup on paper for Yokohama between O-Khan and HENARE and NOAH’s Kaito Kiyomiya with Ryohei Oiwa. Recently graduated Young Lion Oiwa is backed up on the youth side by Boltin Oleg, who will provide a powerhouse counterpart to United Empire’s Prince of Pace Callum Newman in a match with a ton of intrigue.

1st Match: Oskar Leube & Tomoaki Honma vs Gates of Agony (Bishop Kaun & Toa Liona)
20231121_WTL_01.jpg

Three days into their first tour of Japan, the Gates of Agony look to continue making their mark on the combination of Tomoaki Honma and Oskar Leube. Leube and Honma also put up an impressive combination of power and toughness, but can they survive Prince Nana’s charges?

Kickoff: Yuto Nakashima vs Katsuya Murashima
20231121_WTL_00.jpg
A special kickoff thirty minutes before bell will see Katsuya Murashima make his NJPW debut. The college amateur standout will take on Yuto Nakashima, with the eyes of the world upon him.

World Tag League night 3 (November 23) Preview

A Block action in Yokohama

World Tag League action continues in Yokohama on Thursday November 23, with A Block facing their second matchups. After an intense opening night, who can kickstart their campaigns, and who can keep their momentum going?
Watch World Tag League LIVE IN ENGLISH on NJPW World!

Main event: WTL A Block- TMDK (Shane Haste & Mikey Nicholls (1-0) vs HOUSE OF TORTURE (EVIL & Yujiro Takahashi) (1-0)
Tag record: 1-0 TMDK

20231123_WTL_08.jpg
The main event of the night will see EVIL and HOUSE OF TORTURE return to the scene of the crime he perpetrated back during the G1, where a scourge of outside interference led to Shingo Takagi’s elimination from the tournament and a near riot ensuing inside the Yokohama Budokan. Now, there is no doubt an ‘any means necessary’ credo in place for H.O.T tonight, but TMDK is more than ready. Time and again TMDK members have been able to counteract tortuous tactics, including in last year’s World Tag League tournament. Will they do the same tonight to stay clear of A Block, or will EVIL and Yujiro go a step further to get to four points?

7th Match: WTL A Block- Ren Narita & Shota Umino (1-0) vs BULLET CLUB War Dogs (Gabe Kidd & Alex Coughlin) (0-1)
20231123_WTL_07.jpg
After an opening night main event win for his team over HENARE and Great-O-Khan Monday, Shota Umino had some choice words for the owner of New Japan Pro-Wrestling, reminding Takaaki Kidani that he and Ren Narita aren’t ‘two young faces on the rise’ but the new and current main event standard. The chip on Umino’s shoulder was present, and a motivating factor for Umino and Narita’s success on night one, and it’s a chip that the BULLET CLUB War Dogs have cultivated for quite some time.

That creates quite the explosive dynamic for this matchup. In the same block during the G1, Gabe Kidd defeated Ren Narita but fell to Shota Umino. Both matches saw Kidd’s predilection for brawling and violence on full display, violence that was also on display in a wild brawl with Kaito Kiyomiya and Ryohei Oiwa Monday. That match ended in defeat thanks to Kidd taking his eyes off the ball, and his ears off the referee’s 20 count on the floor. Tonight, will it be the most focused team that gets the two points?

6th Match WTL A Block: United Empire (HENARE & Great-O-Khan)(0-1) vs Kaito Kiyomiya & Ryohei Oiwa (1-0)
20231123_WTL_06.jpg
After just barely taking the countout victory on night one of the league over BULLET CLUB War Dogs, Oiwa and Kiyomiya head into their second bout looking for a more decisive result. Yet HENARE and Great-O-Khan, down 0-1 after a gutsy victory for Shota Umino and Ren Narita will certainly not let their record slide to 0-2 easily.

5th Match: WTL A Block- CHAOS (Toru Yano & Tomohiro Ishii) (0-1) vs Gates of Agony (Bishop Kaun & Toa Liona) (0-1)
20231123_WTL_05.jpg

After both teams suffered losses in their first bouts, the Gates of Agony, and CHAOS’ Tomihiro Ishii and Toru Yano are both hungry to get on the board tonight in Yokohama. Only one can get the job done- who will it be?

4th match: Just Five Guys (Yuya Uemura, Taichi & DOUKI) vs Guerrillas of Destiny (El Phantasmo, Hikuleo & Jado)
20231123_WTL_04.jpg
Trios action will see Yuya Uemura and Taichi as well as Friday opponents El Phantasmo and Hikuleo trying to get one up on the competition before their second league match in Yamagata. ELp got the win over Taichi during G1 Climax, but tag competition is a different beast, as we may see in this trios preview.

3rd Match: Boltin Oleg, YOSHI-HASHI & Hirooki Goto vs Oskar Leube, Alex Zayne & Lance Archer
20231123_WTL_03.jpg
Before Bishamon meet Monstersauce Friday night, they’ll go head to head in six man action. Boltin Oleg and Oskar Leube will also make for a fun exchange of power Young Lion offense to boot.

2nd Match: Yuji Nagata, Minoru Suzuki, Tomoaki Honma & Master Wato vs Yota Tsuji, Hiromu Takahashi, Zandokan Jr. & BUSHI
20231123_WTL_02.jpg

With one World Tag League match under their belts, the Nagata and Suzuki combination…might just about be easing into the swing of things, though Suzuki teaming with Tomoaki Honma tonight might cause its own issues. How will they fare against the typically well oiled LIJ, together with a Zandokan Jr. who’s been quickly embraced by the Japanese fans?

1st Match: Atlantis Jr., Soberano Jr. & Tiger Mask vs BULLET CLUB (Bad Luck Fale, Jack Bonza & Taiji Ishimori)
20231123_WTL_01.jpg
An intriguing six man preview kicks off the card in Yokohama. The dynamic Soberano and Atlantis Jr will be paired up with the powerful BULLET CLUB Rogue Army Friday, and this preview match will see Tiger Mask, well familiar with Atlantis Jr. and his father, and Taiji Ishimori long friends with the Rogue General Fale.

Kickoff: Yuto Nakashima vs Shoma Kato
20231123_WTL_00.jpg

Yuto Nakashima and Shoma Kato will kick us off, with kato’s second ever match. In his debut in Korakuen Monday, Kato lasted around four and a half minutes with Oskar Leube. Can the young man go further with Nakashima?
